What you might have missed ...

Something happened late last week that you might have missed - and if you didn't "miss" it, you probably didn't see its import.

Tesla, the electric car making company, announced a 90 second battery swap technology.  Then, they announced that they are going to set up a series of swap stations on the 405 between LA and Frisco, and another setup on the east coast between (I may have gotten this bit a little wrong) Connecticut and New York.  On the 95.

If this works out, it will be seen, in the future, as the point at which Electric Cars finally began to establish themselves as the dominant form of personal ground transportation.

Tesla cars use Lithium Ion batteries.  Very soon now, a new battery technology, Lithium Air, will come to market with 10 TIMES the energy density of Lithium Ion batteries.  Chevy Volts, cars that go 30 miles on a charge, will go 300 with Lithium Air.  Once all manufacturers adopt battery swap technologies - once battery packs are standardized - electric cars will make the Internal Combustion Engine disappear is from Personal Ground Transportation.

But my biggest worry is that the price will keep electric cars from being adapted quickly by consumers... otherwise, this is fantastic news and a big step for weening of the use of fossil fuels...

...btw, congrats to the Black Hawks...

That was always something I wondered about regarding electric cars, and traveling long distances... where to recharge, or swap batteries.
