Memorial Day

Memorial Day - the day we remember all those that died fighting for this country. The one holiday I wish, more than anything, had no reason to exist. But it does.

It seems to be the history of man that old men lose it, and young men die.

It does not HAVE to be that way, and you would think that by now, mankind would have learned that.

Not.

If you stop and think about it, nearly every technological advance that makes our daily life easier, nicer, or more entertaining, has its origins in the effort to develop the technology of war.

It's good that we have found peaceful things to do with the technology of war, but if it came to that, I would rather live in a cave than see young men die.

Ndinombethe.

We call our Memorial Day, Remembrance Day, and it is held on Nov 11. My older son has seen enough war to last a lifetime, as, I'm sure, have you.
You are in my heart.

Amen, and amen.

I'm so glad to see somebody out there doing a Memorial Day post. I think many people don't know what Memorial Day is even supposed to commemorate, a fact which saddens me to no end.

Enjoy your long weekend.

Well said Lou. Hope you and your family have a safe holiday.

Amen. The older I get, the younger the young seem, too.

You of all people know what this day stands for.
I cannot begin to imagine what thoughts race through your mind on a day like this.

I completely agree. Never been able to understand why people are so greedy and hostile. Most governments have the attitudes of small children with big weapons.

It's a different kind of memorial day for me. I learned yesterday that my first love has died of cancer- very young. I was just a few months from seeing him again after almost two decades.

I'm not quite sure how to feel right now.

"The one holiday I wish, more than anything, had no reason to exist." I never thought about it that way, but you're absolutely right.

So many people are against it and yet it happens all the time - as we blog in fact ... war that is. Odd isn't it?

Unfortunately, I'm under the impression that Memorial Day is more about the shopping and barbeques than remembering our fallen heroes.

Witchypoo: Thank you, ma'am. As your son is in mine.

Tara R: Thank you, ma'am.

Trannyhead: I have enjoyed. And I do remember.

Moneythoughts: Thank you, Fred. A good holiday was had by all.

Maggie's Mind: Yeah - I see 21 hyear olds that I could SWEAR should be in diapers.

Jientje: They're sad, that's all I can say.

Loraine: I am so sorry for your loss.

HollyATOM: Thank you, Holly.

Ree: Hugs right back atcha.

Neutron: Odd? Yes, I guess so. But those who fight the wars are not the ones who lead us into them.

Joyce-Anne: It has become so - but our new class of veterans will serve to restore the proper memories, I'm sure. Unfortunate that they exist - but they do, so they will.

With all of our advances, it's sad that we cannot end war for the sake of our young children -- I say a prayer for all those suffering from loss on this day and wish peace to us all.

that is actually a nice wish... wishing no memorial day were necessary, that is...

My heart aches to think of the billions' of mothers who have grieved their sons because of war since man first began to envy each others' caves...

Lou, agreed. And those who fight the wars, elect the ones who lead us into them. Kinda a vicious cycle.
