In my garden

I am so sore. My muscles ache. Well, most of them, anyway. BUT! The back yard - my BIG back yard (garden, for those of you from the UK or her colonies - except the US, where we didn't keep a lot of the idioms of the language) is mowed AND raked and mowed again.

There is so much work that needs be done back there. The problem is, and has been, the weather. I hate mowing when the grass is wet. I try to mow on the weekends. All that means is that yesterday was the first time this year I've been able to mow the grass. And it was LONG. So long, I actually raked up the cut grass and made mulch piles at the back of the yard where some stuff is growing that I don't want growing there, so the grass piles SHOULD stifle said growing things and make a bare spot I can fill in later with ... more grass.

And there's trees to cut down and bushes to trim and roses that need pruning, etc, etc, etc.

Speaking of bushes to trim ... oh, nevermind. We won't go there. Well, I will, I'm just not going to take you with me.

Remember the sunbeams you promised to send me yesterday? They have arrived!! The rain stopped in the early afternoon and I was able to do my gardening after all! All of MY muscles ache too but it's done and I love it when everything is neat and clean again!
This morning is a glorious morning. Thank you for the sunshine!

Working in the garden can be very rewarding, let me know when you get down this way, I wouldn't want to keep you from any pleasures. I have a back yard that needs work. But, I would rather ride my bike and plant flowers in the front yard. A trimmed bush looks better and can be much more fun.

I was going to make a comment but decided against going there!

we need to start working on our garden, too--it's a lot work, but rewarding, too

snirk. you're too cute.

I'll be transplanting tiger lilies and lily of the valleys later today. I hope the wind stops blowing.

Ugh! I feel your pain, Lou. I'm just not getting into the endless yardwork goove as easily this year. I had a good start a couple weeks ago and ran out of steam.

Maybe next week. I'm actually glad it's going to rain all this week!

Snicker...Payback of mother nature for a big yard ;)
Lots of work.
I've been puzzling in our small one for the last two days, I feel your pain. Grass mowing is on the agenda for tomorrow,IF it stays dry.

Some of the things you've written about(though not the last ;-0) are the reasons friends try to get me to move from my house to a condo. NEVER. ~Mary

I've been whining about the local weather here being cold and crummy, until I went to see my parents yesterday in the mountains and drove through snow going and coming home. Today, I went out to find that my new favorite neighbor had left 1000 pounds of flagstone next to my garage... FREE for me. Free if you don't count the ibuprofen it's going to cost me just to be able to move tomorrow...after I moved it all to the back yard by hand.

I love yard work. Instant gratification.

I feel your pain! Last weekend when I cleared out our back yard, I should have abandoned my mowing and just baled it instead.

I don't like yardwork, housework I tolerate but pruning, trimming, etc-that's for the birds.

Jientje: Well, you're welcome.

Moneythoughts: Oh yes!! Much more fun.

M+B: Going where? There?

Cathy: Yes, it is nice to come home to a nicely trimmed lawn.

Shadow: And some things more frequently than that!

Cat: Okay. Nothing like homegrown.

Ree: Me too. The wind, that is.

Lola: No. Not in the groove. Not yet.

Nicole: Snicker? I love Snickers.

Sarah: Your back hurts because you're very pregnant - it has nothing to do with sympathy for me - but I appreciate the effort.

FrankandMary: Me either. Home sweet home. Not condo sweet condo.

Hyphen Mama: Half a ton of flagstone? And you moved it yourself? I would offer to massage your back - but Denver is a long way from here.

Tara R: Baling? Why didn't I think of that?

Joyce-Anne: I don't much care for yardwork - but it's the price you pay, I guess.

that ALMOST makes me glad I live in a McCondo with no yard. Except that I'd really like to grow more vegetables.

No photos of the hard working guy?

It does feel better to get it all done doesn't it :)

Your big back yard sounds like much the reason we moved to town and opted for a house with a small yard. So much easier to keep.

I feel you on the gardening. I have spent about 10 hours in the last week or so redoing a flower bed that had become completely overgrown with vinca. Ground cover = bane of my existence in flower beds. It's finally all gone. Moved to a spot that used to be covered with ivy, which is the only thing worse than vinca. At least the vinca won't cover my house and trees. So, where are we going on this back-ache train? Somewhere with fruity drinks, I hope.

Mowing yes, that's done. All the rest weed wacking and assorted odd jobs. Leave it to the weather to be a thorn in your side. (Hugs)Indigo

My girlfriend's back yard is a wreck. Overgrown fencing, downed limbs from the ice storm, moldering piles of abandoned sand boxes and toys from when the kids were 10 years younger...

I spent a day last weekend with a chainsaw taking down a decrepit but once well-built play set.

The son was forced out physically to help, and spent the first 30 minutes sulking. (He's 14) As I worked my way through, I showed him how the chainsaw worked, what the dangers were, took his advice on where to cut, and even let him cut a few times (with me holding on too). Largely he carried off timbers I'd cut up.

It turned out to be a great day for him, he hugged his mother later, and told her how much fun he'd had.

And we never went near one of his many video game machines.

This kid is looking for a good male figure, so I was glad I could be one for a bit.
