A New Friend

She came home with me yesterday. She's big. And hefty. She really responds to my touch - she feels so good under my fingers. She listens to me, says what I want her to say, when I want her to say it and is very obedient. Her name is "Luscious" and she's my new Mac Book Pro. I love this thing.

I have never been a Mac aficionado. I have been a Linux evangelist for many years. I always thought if I left Windows, it would be for Linux. But Linux still isn't ready for prime time. And Mac now runs over the top of BSD Unix. The Mac of today is faster and more stable than it has ever been before, it runs on Intel processors, and there are more and better applications than ever. And Windows Vista has finally pissed me off to the point that I will never buy another computer with Windows installed again.

So I am learning a whole new computer system. Macs work a bit differently than do Windoze systems. And they take a bit of getting used to. But, you know, that's the kind of thing I've always found to be fun.

On the other hand, buying the thing was not a simple decision to make. It was expensive, even in light of recent price reductions on this model, which is being superseded by a newer model - bigger drive, more RAM, more advanced graphics system. But, I've managed to justify this by telling myself I deserve it, having been refused permission to show up in Nashville at Blissdom because I don't have a hoo-hoo. Actually, I've been thinking about this for a while. And it just got to be time.

Now all I have to do is figure out how to do everything I need to do.

Peace.

Congratulations on your new addition! I know you will enjoy using it. Let us know how you like it.

Wow. I'm the first to respond. That's cool! (Now I better go to sleep before my little alarm clocks wake me...)

Lick her for me. I know I just did mine.

I totally adore my MacBook. She is so beautiful. Um, I think she needs a little bit of a clean though. And a new e key.

Mac's rock.

Wel Lou congratulations on your new mistress. I completely understand frustration with Vista. My work has a Vista computer, and I have had nothing but trouble with it.

I used to be leery of Mac, because of all the history, but have heard some great things about them lately. Just remember to hold her gently, pet her softly, and tell her shes wonderful. Of course be sure to push the right buttons.

May her love for you show in your writing. LOL

Definitely makes up for lack of hoo-hoo - maybe...?!

And you are well justified, you do deserve 'Luscious' (what a great name)! Enjoy exploring your new mistress!!!

Once my evil toddler is tucked up, I'm going to settle in and read The Kid

My first three computers were Macs. It's what I learned on, and they are rather intuitive. Unfortunately, PC's are cheaper, so I went to the dark side. May you and Luscious be very happy together.

Like witchypoo my first computers were Macs because that is what the schools put in the lab for elementary students. (At the time Mac did a better job selling than PC), but when I bought for myself of course I went with PC. I'm happy right now, but I'm still running the older modle without vista --- When the time comes to change and I know it is coming even it all I do is this then I'll be asking lots of questions!!!!!
Enjoy your new toy --- I love new toys.

Ah, you went to the dark side, my friend.

You'll have to tell me what you think of her in a month.

I hope you don't fall out of love.....

Congrats!

My dad bought my computer for me when my kids fried the last one, so I won't look a gift horse in the mouth. But this year, my father- in- law upgraded to Mac, and I'm hoping I'll be able to afford to do so someday, too..

Woohoo another convert. You'll notice the colours of photos are much more vibrant and closer to how they're meant to look. I love mine.

I'm right behind you. Well, when I can find a rich relative to pay for it!

Apple has really impressed me with the products I do own. We're a 4 iPod house-and if they were microsoft products, the management software would have hiccuped and keeled over at the propect of keeping 4 units separate. Or they would have made me pay for the music management software four times.

Once this laptop has to be replaced, it will be a Mac, because I will never install Vista.

Enjoy your new friend! :)

(and I miss my OS/2 Warp!)

Congrats on the new addition to the family! My brother has nearly talked me into Mac-dom, but I still can't justify the cost. Maybe when this one finally buys the farm... Can't wait to see what you do with yours!

Lou,
I think you will get a chuckle from an old post of mine. Sounds like what you are going through right now...http://www.ayewonder.com/2007/10/04/friends-no-longer/

Joyce-Anne: I am enjoying this girl a great deal already.

Kelley: Macs rock - NOW. It wasn't always so - Mac extensions and other stuff you had to contend with in earlier versions of the O/S made it just as difficult to deal with, in its own way, as any other O/S.

Eric S: She's a beaut. We'll see how this works out.

Julie: So far, so good.

Myst_72: Close. Just close, mind you.

m+b: She does fondle nicely.

Witchypoo: I'm sorry you've had to go to the darkside, especially to be forced over there by money concerns. But there ARE other choces - it just is defined by what oyu need to do with your system. There are Linux laptops out there at price points equal to or less than Windoze systems.

Patsy: The only difference between men and boys is the prices of their toys.

Ash: I will, darlin'.

Christy: I don't fall out that easily.

Loraine: As long as the system you use is stable and reliable.

Abritdifferent: Yes. Another convert.

Suzanne: I love my iPod. But you're right - Macs are expensive.

Calicobebop: Cost is a real beater - that's for sure.

We've been a Mac family for years. We had two at home, and got a MacBook for the college kid when she left for school. A laptop for me is on my birthday/Christmas/NewYears/Valentines/Easter present wish list. Seriously jealous over here.

Ah, men and their mistresses. Tell your wife I have a posse I can send over if "Luscious" gets too fresh.

Vista is the #1 reason I don't want to buy a new laptop. I want to keep my XP because I know it so well. My parents are Mac people. I'm not sure I'm brave enough to switch.

Have fun with her!

OMG! OMG! OMG!

So sorry. I cannot tell you how excited I am to read this. My love for my Mac is beyond words. But of course, you know that.

WELCOME TO THE DARK SIDE :)

I'm nearly in tears I'm so jealous. Mine died and I got stuck with Pup's HP. I hope you love the Mac.

We just switched my desktop from XP to Vista and it's been a nightmare. My technogeek husband (I mean that in the very nicest way) swears he'll never get anything but a MAC from now on. I'm on the verge of agreeing with him. Sigh. Maybe sooner rather than later at the rate we're going!Congratulations on your new friend!

Sounds like me and my new camera ;)
And yes, Mac is awesome - one day I'll have one again too :)
