Linux Hissy Fit

There are things about Linux that still piss me off - even though for the last 12 years I earned my bones building and maintaining Linux Servers supporting Oracle databases.  Even as those complex systems evolved toward simplicity, over time, it's still a complex environment.  Robust, but complex.

And that kind of thing is what Linus is very, very good at.  HTTP servers.  You know, the servers that hold the Web Pages and Stores and News Servers y'all cruise all day long.  Database servers.  Mail servers.  Storage system servers.

And I can do all that. I can build and support and deploy those systems.  Easy peasy.

And I use Linux for my home "Workstation".  I can do anything with my Linux box that most Windows Users can do with their systems.  And all of my software is free.

But.

There is the proverbial fly in the ointment that will, occasionally, rear it's ugly head.

Linux is not well supported by peripheral equipment manufacturers.  Especially printers.

And that's my fly in my ointment, lately.

I have a Canon Pixma MG6022 printer and I can't use it wirelessly with my Linux system.  I can use it with my MACBOOK.  I can use it with my Windows 7 system.  There are NO SUITABLE drivers for Linux.

Until simple (or what SHOULD be simple) problems like this are solved - until it's just as easy to buy a printer, install the drivers and use the printer as it is in Windows and Mac OSX, Linux is never going to gain the traction it should as a Desktop System.  Even though it's actually a superior and more secure operating system than Windows would ever hope to be.
