100 Word Challenge - Shimmer

What follows is offered in response to Velvet Verbosity's 100 Word Challenge. The challenge, this week, is "Shimmer".



She was a vision, rising from the thick shimmer that lay on the water like a coat of paint, her long blond hair plastered to the freckled face with the blue eyes he could see even at this distance.

He got up on his elbows so he could shield his face from the sun with his hand, and see her better.  But the sun was so bright the glare from sand and water made his eyes tear.  He kept blinking; he still couldn't see her clearly and soon she would pass him.

And then, she was gone.

Just his luck.
