What follows is offered in response to Velvet Verbosity's 100 Word Challenge. The challenge, this week, is "Disconnect".
They lay in the bed, side by side, the past few minutes fresh, and disappointing, in their minds. His hand covered hers, between them, fingers intertwined. They each felt the heartbeat of the other through their fingers.
Both stared at the ceiling, not really knowing what to say. Not knowing, really, what had happened.
It had started well enough, but at some point ... it just seemed to go off kilter. They both lost the mood at about the same time.
He lost his. She lost hers.
Now they lay there, trying to deal with the disconnect between Expectation and Experience.
