100 Word Challenge
He sat on a log near the fire, staring into the flames as they slowly died down to glowing embers.  The scent of the fire, mixed as it was with that of the pine trees, filled his nostrils with it's pungent body, reminding him of so many other night's spent, in other places, with other folks, watching other fires fade away and die.

Campfires relaxed him.  Fires took him home to times years ago, when his whole world was fresh and full of possibilities and imagination.  Fires were warm.  Fires were alive.   But mostly, fires were fascinating and pretty.  Just like her.

There is something mesmerising about fires. You final sentence is great, it opens all sorts of doors in the readers' mind.
