Uncertain Certainties.

There is nothing so uncertain as what is going to happen next - and yet life follows patterns that repeat, endlessly.  Mercilessly.

The young are born.  They grow and age and, eventually, replace the elders who were the elders when they were born.

Look at the picture of a family.  Your family.  There was a time when people you don't even know gathered in the same kind of group with the same kind of relationships to each other, and they were people who, had they not lived, you would not live.

They lived and loved and grew old and died, leaving the young and younger behind them - to continue the endless cycle of birth, and family, and death.

And they wanted to do the same things - to make it a little bit better for their young than they had it - the beds a little softer, the house a little warmer, the food just that much better.  And more of it.

Otherwise ... just what would be the point, eh?  If we can't make it better for those who will come next?

Ndinombethe.  As I go, I am wearing you.

As they go, they will wear you.

Wow... this was a very philosophical post... almost existential in nature...

It's remarkable when you think of how a simple left turn instead of a right one could have meant an entirely different life path for an ancestor, thus rendering your own existence null and void. How random and delicate and precious are we all??

Glad to have met you that day that I googled our city. Glad I was lonely and wondering and FOUND you!
