It's been a while ...

Saturday was the 237th birthday of the USMC.  The next day, Sunday, was Veteran's Day, celebrating all vets of all wars - but it was originally a day that celebrated the Armistice signed on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 that officially ended WWI, although hostilities continued in Russia and the old Ottoman Empire.  It was celebrated on Monday.  Yesterday.

Somehow it doesn't seem like it was 47 years ago, the year the USMC turned 190, that I came home from Nam.  July of '66.  I missed the Marine Corps Ball in '66.  In fact, I only ever made it to one - 1963, on my first tour of duty overseas.  On Okinawa.

But Happy Birthday, USMC, belated though it may be.  And Happy Armistice Day/Veteran's Day/Remembrance Day, everyone.  Belatedly.

I wish, however, there was no reason for those days to exist.

Maybe.  Someday.  When we all grow up and learn to live together.

Ndinombethe.
