Soap box, anyone?, Photo365, Day 86

I may be preparing to climb on another soapbox - again, I need more data - but I think, from what I know so far, that it's deplorable that women are being told what they can and cannot do with their bodies on a very personal level. There's even a male legislator in Florida who compared women, by analogy, to livestock while arguing legislation which would force women, among other things, to carry a dead fetus until "God" caused it to be passed from the body naturally.

I know this sort of thing has gone on before. The Catholic Church was very good at imposing its will over people. Of course, those were the Middle Ages - we are supposed to be smarter, more educated, able to look back into history and learn from our mistakes. Apparently, this particular Floridian (who, thankfully, is NOT a Democrat) has no idea how to read history - or learn from it. The Christian Right - acting like fascists. We're supposed to know better.

We are supposed to know better.

...uh, that bike looks a little too young for you AND your readership..! I have seen teens and 'tweens' on aggressive bikes like that... riding them aggressively..!

...the anti-knowledge folks make me think that a return to the dark ages is something that they would not mind... it is easy to see why... they are powerless in this universe and by making knowledge sinful, they feel powerful by invoking a simplistic version of how to live ...

I am absolutely baffled by what I am reading in the U.S. news these days. It's like the dark ages. Come on, people!!!

I'll join you on the soapbox or hold signs of support. I'm stunned that there isn't more opposition to legislative proposals like that. It's stunning.

I just had a l-o-n-g go-round with my brother (by birth!) about this sort of thing. I think that there is no convincing some people that this stuff is just wrong. It's disheartening.
