BEARS!!!! Cubs ... uh ... Anyway, Da Bears have started the season in wonderful fashion - a big win over a team that many figure to be among the elite in the NFL. Nobody talked about the Bears going in - but I think they'll be talking about them now. Next up is New Orleans - IN New Orleans. It's going to be tough - a real test of their mettle. Fingers crossed.
#3 Son has gone back to school. Of course, he's only 20 some miles away, and we'll see him at least every other weekend, but he's not HOME. He's in his dorm, at school. heh heh.
#3 Son is now a convert to the 'No Nose' saddle - his bicycle having had one installed over this last weekend. He likes it a lot - when we ride together, we tend to go on longer rides than he's been used to, and he was complaining about his seat. He'll complain no longer.
I watched some Pop Warner football yesterday - my friend Mark's younger boy was playing - a skinny little blond kid that's just a little short for his age. He wears number 54. I heard a parent from the OTHER team say, "Boy, that number 54 from the Steelers - they can't keep him out." He had 5 sacks of the Quarterback. He had 7 solo tackles of runners and 9 other tackles in which he figured. I saw him beat double teams (where more than one player was assigned to block him) and I saw him run for several 20+ yard gains. Honestly, he has to be the best 9 year old football player I have ever seen. And I have seen some.
As of the time I'm writing this, we appear to be unmarked by any terrorist attack on 9/11 this year. Which is good and as it should be.
We are alert. We are wary. Someday, maybe someday, that alertness and that wariness will no longer be necessary.

Which is as it should be indeed. Let's hope someday, stuff like that never happens again!
Sounds like I wasn't the only one who had a most excellent football weekend... with the latest son away at school, does this mean the nest is nearly empty..?
I think there is too much profit for the elite in keeping us wary ... and the alertness is aimed at the wrong people... but I'm jus' sayin'...
Lou...I live just outside Rockford, IL, now! But I am still not rooting for The Bears!
May that day come soon and may we recognize and welcome it.
Watching a Pop Warner football game was probably the best way to spend Sunday that I've seen so far.
Reminds me of the Cubs digs that the Museum of Science and Industry coal mine exhibit operator kept making on our tour a couple weeks ago....
Let's hope we can let our guard down again someday, but I doubt it will be in our lifetime. Sad.
