Monday Meanders 8-29

Cubs ... :(

Labor Day is almost upon us. For me, as a kid, Labor Day meant the end of Summer, back to school, and back to the city from an idyllic summer at Aunt Louise's resort in Wauconda. It also signaled the change in weather that makes living in and around Chicago so worthwhile. There is nowhere I know of where Fall is so pleasant as here.

I started cleaning up my 'new' bicycle yesterday. It's missing much of the 'accoutrement' that make a Spaceliner so flashy - the 'tank' is gone, the rear fender and carrier are gone and its original seat has been replaced by a Schwinn seat. It's pretty badly pitted and rusted, and I'm sure I'm never going to be able to restore the bike to pristine condition, so I'm just going to make it ride-able and keep it as nice as I can. That said, I AM going to try to find a fender for it and a new set of whitewall tires.

LM's (Love Muffin) Mom died a two weeks ago, yesterday. While we were on vacation. She was buried in Prescott, Arizona, so LM was able to be there when her Mom was buried. It's going to be a while before she gets past this. But she will - as we all must. Her Mom was quite a woman - and I have one of her best efforts all to myself. RIP, Jeanette.

I'm so sorry about your loss. I can't imagine that it gets easier with age to lose a parent, but I will say you and LM were very lucky to have her in your lives for so long.

Thinking of you both

I've been thinking of LM. I'm glad she has you for support.

And for the bike? Maybe it's time to hit eBay. Don't forget to include some tassels for the handlebars...
