Just about a year ago ...

... Grannie fell and broke her hip. OR Grannies hip broke and she fell. We never have been able to figure out the exact sequence of events - and I always felt that it was important that we should. Anyway.

Here it is, a year later. A year and three operations later. Two on her hip - one a year ago, and the other two weeks ago. And one on her cervical spine (neck). She's back in the rehab unit she was in a year ago for the same reason - recovering from surgery on her hip.

Grannie is one tough old broad.

A friend of mine lost her mother a week ago. Suddenly. She wrote a post about how she's feeling right now. Her growing sense of loss. The slow realization she'll never talk to her Mom again. Reading it I ached for her and her pain.

And I thanked God that mine is still alive, in the Rehab Unit, getting better.

And I know that, at 85 years old, I'm not going to be able to keep her forever. But for now ... she's here and I love her to pieces.

Well, not too many pieces. She is, after all, one tough old broad. :)

My parents aren't in the best of health either and I dread the day when one of them dies. Even when a passing is expected, I don't think we can ever really prepare for it.

Prayers for Grannie and her continued recovery.

I am glad that you still have your Mother and that the love you both share is so strong! That is quite enviable and it is good to know that the kind of relationship you have exists and isn't just make believe...

The closer it gets, the more I realize... and the more I hang on...

Wow, she is tough! Too many times, I have seen other people's hips just not heal. Keep loving her real good -- love is healing.

We NEED our mums... and our grans. Whatever are we going to do without them?

Mortality is a mindf$%# isn't it? Glad she's getting better, though.
