A post for Brandie

Not too long ago, I made the acquaintance of a young woman at a Blogger meetup. Her name was Brandie, and while at the meetup, she recounted how she had a Doctor's appointment coming up and that there was some suspicion. Nothing solid. Nothing for sure. Just some biopsy stuff to check stuff out.

The diagnosis came back Cancer. Yesterday was her birthday. She's 32 years old now. Tomorrow she undergoes a bilateral mastectomy.

If it seems that that was a lot of stuff to say in a very short and abrupt manner, just try living through getting hit with all of that stuff one right after another.

Brandie is amazing.

Let me tell you something that illustrates the kind of person she is.

LM (Love Muffin) and I drove up to her house to deliver a couple of hats that Grannie had knitted for her to wear as she goes through treatment after her surgery. Grannie had ordered some more (softer) yarn and wanted to be sure that the next hat (a Tam) would fit, so she wanted Brandie to try on the hats she had already made.

Anyway, LM and I rode up to her house and when we got there, Brandie and her three kids were working in the front yard. We pulled up on the driveway and as we got out of the car, Brandie walked around the front of the car and over to the passenger side and greeted LM with a hug as she got out of the car.

Brandie knew me. She had never met LM. But she walked up to LM and gave her a warm and welcoming hug. First.

That one little thing speaks more to the kind of person she is, in my mind, than anything she could ever have said or done.

I would ask you a favor - inundate her blog (right here) today with supportive comments. Let her know you're out here and thinking of her - and maybe even praying for her.

There's little any of us can do right now, except to let her know we're out here and we have her back. Do that? For me, will you? Please?

Ndinombethe.

You are the second blogger I know to post about Brandie. We used to comment on each other's blogs but somehow lost touch.... Thank you for the reminder. How sweet of Grannie to make her some hats.

She sounds like an amazing woman. I can't imagine the journey ahead of her, but if the words about her I have read from some of her bloggy friends are any evidence, she's got a strong support system to help get her through.

I have been, and I asked Lisa to stop by too. As another really young woman who fought this terrible disease and won, I think she could be a good source of support for Brandie.

Good for her Mom for giving her that t-shirt. I gave one to Lisa that said, "Hell, yes, they're fake. My real ones tried to kill me."
