What follows is in response to the 100 Word Challenge, authored by the grand matriarch, Velvet Verbosity. The word this week is "Family".
He strode across the porch. He stood in the doorway, backlit by the golden glow of the sun and wheat.
He surveyed the broad room before him. There was a large stone fireplace, central to the opposite wall. To the left, a door that led to his bedroom. To the right, the door to the mud room and the side door of the house.
The room before him was plainly appointed: varnished wood floor, windows with no curtains, the only decorations a row of plates on the fireplace mantle.
"The only thing this place needs", he thought, "is a family."

p.s. The opening bit of "Farmer" (also a 100 Word Challenge) is here.

TRUE! It's all anyone needs.
This has such a warm feel about it. Wonderful descriptions.
Man family is touchy for me right now but family is what you make it so agreed:-)
Feels like I wandered into an intelligent fantasy. ~Mary
I'm pretty much loving this farmer. Do you think you could breathe life into him and send him my way?
