I was all bent out of shape. I saw a tweet today which said there were "no good men writing anywhere". Supposedly, this statement was overheard many times at Blissdom. In fact, Lauren Lankford (@laurenlankford) said she'd heard it many times - and then, thankfully, disagreed.
I'm not bent out of shape anymore. I had all day to think about it. Now I'm curious.
What I'd like to know is - where does the stress belong in that statement?
Said in one manner, it could mean there are no good men writers out here in the Blogosphere - as in, no men that are good writers.
Said in another manner, it could mean that there are no good men writers out here in the Blogosphere - as in, there are no writers that are good men.
I read many of the women that were at Blissdom. I like to feel I've gotten to know them at some level. That said, I feel I know them, THEM, well enough to say that they would never paint with such a broad brush. I would also like to say that there are women, out here in the Blogosphere, who are, perhaps, not reading the right people - not reading the right men.
But I'd like to think that those 'broad brush painters' are wrong, on both counts.
There are good men out here.
There are men writing good stuff out here.
I just thought somebody needed to say that.

that's waaaaay too general a statement to make for it to be accurate. there ARE good men and there ARE good writers who are men, just as you say.
I know a good man, and he's a good writer too. It's YOU!
I agree: that's way too general a statement and completely not true. You're a good man, a good writer and a good photographer too. The woman/women who said that are just feeling superior and they shouldn't.
Pretty sure anyone who would ever utter such nonsense doesn't read anything but mommyblogs.
It's refreshing to subscribe to a variety of blogs. I love scrolling through my reader and am delighted everyday with I read.

I was at Blissdom and I didn't hear that once.
I did hear a lot of empowering pro-women statements, but never at the expense of men. It was to lift each other up...not to put others down. That was kinda the point of the whole conference. If others were dissing men, they were kinda missing the point.
I read a lot of blogs and can attest there are MANY great male writers out there. You are one of my favorites :)
I am glad you write and you enjoy it. Don't worry about what anyone else says...or tweets.
I don't get twitter. It just confuses me.
If that was a sentiment, then the speaker is definitely not reading the right blogs. I am always impressed by the dads, men, guy bloggers I've been fortunate to find.
Even one (that I know of) of the mommybloggers is a man and a great writer and I don't know what kind of man. But you, Lou? You are both and I'm glad to have you in my blog life.

I can only imagine that anyone who would make a statement like that simply hasn't read any of the men writing in the blogosphere. I can think of several, yourself at the top of the list, who are both good men and great writers. I wouldn't waste a minute worrying about this sort of thing. It's meant to be provocative, I suspect, and not worthy of serious consideration.
Huh, I hadn't heard that. You prove that statement wrong, though, Lou. And what about Mochadad? Backpacking Dad? Guy Kawasaki?
