100 Word Challenge - Act

What follows is in response to the 100 Word Challenge, authored by the decisive and quick Velvet Verbosity. The word this week is "Act".

100 Word Challenge

The Argument

It started out as a quiet conversation. A planning session. They were going to a reception and it was going to be out of town and they needed to talk about where they'd stay and what they would gift and all sorts of things. But slowly the tenor of the conversation turned. There was something bothering her and he knew it. He became more insistent and she became more resistant, and the more he pushed, the more she pushed back, until finally, she told him she was worried and concerned; that when he drank he didn't know how to act.

Love the rhythm on this one.

Very powerful, Lou.

I really like the words and phrases in this. "They were... and... and... and..." Insistent/resistant. Pushed/pushed. Excellent.

In my field, it's the underlying question of many conversations, the underlying fear of many scenarios. Realistically written.

It surprises me sometimes how two people who love each other find it difficult to talk about difficult things. You touched on that so poignantly.

I'm with Tara on this one. Very well written!

I agree with both Tara and Jientje. Love this 100 words!

I agree with Tara, Jientje and Joyce-Anne (isn't that a wonderfully friendly and approachable name?)... a lot of times it is the struggle to find the words to broach a subjcet that makes the tension more unbearable than the subject itself.

It sweeps you along to the punch line. Nicely done.
