WTF is Manga?

#3 Son has officially lost his mind. And his mother is right in there with him.

There's a convention in Rosemont, IL coming up in May. I don't know what the name of this thing is, but everyone is going to go dressed up like characters from Manga. It's a 3 day orgy of Manga characters.

#3 and his girlfriend are going. In costume. #3 is going to have his hair done BLUE and his mother (The lovely SWMBO) paid for a costume to be hand made in Hong Kong!!! (Actually, it looks kinda cool). It looks good on him - he looks like a young Elvis. BUT. His hair isn't blue. Yet.

I guess the Trekkies have competition for being totally f**king whacky. And I think they're going to lose. After all, these Manga people have SWMBO on their side.

A friend's daughter was into this too. She had the costumes and went to the conventions. She also went to Full Sail University near Orlando to study computer animation. To each their own. I'm going to Chicago this summer to see a bunch of people I've only met on the Internet... crazy, huh? xoxox

I thought for sure it was the SNL skit with the little guy in gold boots, but alas, I was wrong!!

Blue hair is good, too!

Dude - cosplay. It's where it's at these days. Any excuse to dress up and pretend you're a superhero - right? :)

Hilarious.
I am trying to remember where I saw a girl that looked like out of a Manga.
Yepp, Trekkies sure have a tough competition there ;)

So, you have some anime fans on your hands, huh? Sounds like a fun event.

Many, many...many moons ago, I dressed up as Chun-Li (from Street Fighter) for Halloween. With my hair up in white buns and everything. I am quite thankful there is no photographic evidence.

My Girlfriend's daughter is into anime, Manga and otherwise.

Oddly, she's also into goth fashions. In fact, she is under the impression that Goth is JUST a fashion style, that it has no other connotation.

I dunno, I keep telling my girlfriend to just hang on, because from the ages of 15 to 18, everything changes ever two hours.

It sounds like a real costume battle is ensuing. Good luck to your son and his girlfriend.

At least it isn't one of those conventions where the people dress up in animal mascot costumes, right? We went to a wedding a few months ago where they were holding one of those downstairs. There's nothing like walking into a bathroom dressed in your finest and standing in line next to a giant hot pink rabbit.

People are strange =) I hope #3 has fun!

My daughter Arielle isn't just into manga- she draws it quite well and has even drawn herself as a character and dyed her hair thusly. No, I don't get it. But she does have talent- and as my husband works in screen printing, she now has clothing with her art on it. Pretty awesome.

Your title pretty well captured my thoughts.
I hope they have fun and capture a prize.

Shadow: From where you are, maybe ....

Moneythoughts: And I am but a footlight.

Tara R: Crazy, Baby!!!

Cathy: It's called 'cosplay' - and it's like Star trek conventions - only stranger.

Hyphen Mama: Zach's hair is dark and thick. I want to see just how blue it's actually going to be.

Calicobebop: .... right ....

NicoleB: Yup. It's international.

Momisodes: I would sell my soul to see you as Chun-Li. Chun-Li is HAWT!

Ingot: I am so happy to see Goth graduate to 'fashion' - and leave its roots behind.

Joyce-Anne: Thank you, Joyce-Anne. I just hope they don't run into any rednecks looking for fun, on their way to the convention.

Jientje: Yes. there will be photos.

Sarah: No, not 'mascots'. Superheroes. From Japanese illustrated novels.

Ree: Yup. I am JUST as strange as he is.

Employee: Yes. I will. Many. And I WILL save them for later - like when HE has kids.

Loraine: I would like to see some of her drawings.

Trekkies haven't got a prayer up against Japanese animation. I would totally dig the blue hair, it's been years since I've had my hair blue. (Hugs)Indigo
