Dead Gremlins and Dorothy Parker

I know I'm not supposed to mention this - in the great Karmatic scheme of things, this will bite me in the ass - but I have actually, successfully, picked off the last of those pesky gremlins which have been plaguing me for so long. I am going to be working this Sunday afternoon, again, but only to complete a project which has been hanging fire until I picked those little critters off. So this Sunday, I will voluntarily commit my afternoon to bringing 9 TERABYTES of storage online. And, for those of you who don't know, 1 Terabyte is 1000 Gigabytes, which, in turn, is 1000 Megabytes. At 500 typed pages per Megabyte of text, a Terabyte is an AWFUL lot of data.

Lots of room to play around in. Cool.

I'm not going to be able to visit blogs much over the next several days - so if you notice me missing - it's only because I'm busy. I will be back. I will catch up. And I will be posting here.

But, before I turn out the light and go to bed ...

I have been given a book - "The Poetry & Short Stories of Dorothy Parker" - which I intend to read cover to cover. Dorothy Parker was one of those people I would really like to have known. Like Hemingway. Or F. Scott Fitzgerald. The literati of the Twentieth Century. Anais Nin. Henry Miller. Herman Wouk. Anyway.....

She was a wit and had a way with short, succinct poems. To wit:

UNFORTUNATE COINCIDENCE

By the time you swear you're his,
Shivering and sighing,
And he vows his passion is
Infinite, undying -
Lady, make a note of this:
One of you is lying.

Will miss you.

That poem... er, not sure what to think.

First instinct is to laugh, so will go with that.

Terabytes, gigabytes, megabytes, it gives a whole new meaning to an expression boys used in high school when they said, "byte me".

Have fun.
I LOVE Dorothy Parker. My favorite quote of hers resulted when someone asked her to use the word "horticulture" in a sentence. She replied:

"You can lead a horticulture but you can't make her think!"

Glad to hear your gremlin news. Sorry that you are working on Sunday. I hope this is the last weekend you have to lose to work.

Hooray for the demise of the gremlins! I just know that Parker had the dirtiest laugh ever.

That is an awful lot of data! Whew!

You will be missed, Lou.

Hope you will finally have a weekend off soon.

I love that poem! Congrats on the gremlins, I can empathize with having to exorcise computer mites. Hope weekend is an easy one.

Tiff: Your first instinct is always the best one. And correct.

Shadow: I'll miss you, too, V.

Myst_72: Thank you, Gina.

Moneythoughts: Yes, and new meaning to 'bug' bytes, as well.

Calicobebop: Thank you, ma'am. Ms. Parker is great, isn't she?

Loraine: I LOVE that quote.

Joyce-Anne: I hope so, too.

Witchypoo: Yeah - when you read her, you get that.

Momisodes: Thank you, Sandy. One of these days ...

Indigo: Have fun reading her.

Tara R: That poem is great, isn't it? So defines the experience of the singles playing the dating game, no?

9 Terabytes... isn't that the national budget this year?

The poem is fantastic. Your post also reminds me of the song "Morning Song" by Jewel. She mentions your authors in the song so it pops in my head. "...you can read Henry Miller and I'll read, Anias Nin. 'cept this time it'll be even better we'll stay together in the end..."
