And then there was GirlBlue

Our last full day in Trinidad was Wednesday of last week; we left that winsome isle on Thursday afternoon a little after 4pm. On that last full day we were picked up at our guest house by the lovely lady pictured below:

She is none other than Girlblue from Rantings & Ramblings and she drove us over winding mountain roads to the north coast of Trinidad and a lovely place called Maracas Bay:

Where Louie found a wandering vendor who sold him a Calabash husk and carved the word Trinidad in the husk:

BUT - not before Girlblue had introduced us to a wonderful Trini tradition called 'Bake & Shark', which I understood to be 'Baconshark' until I finally got to the place where they were sold and I could read the sign. The Trini version of English is actually a foreign language - really.

And, naturally, because I'm just a bit too big around the middle, there's a big drop of grease/oil/something on my shirt and Girlblue naturally had to document the sloppy eating habits of the foreigner. Oh well. SWMBO knows I wear as much as I eat anyway.

And then, on the way back to the hotel, I thought it might be fun to point my little camera out the front window as we drove those little bitty roads through the rain and take a short movie - so I could share.

This wasn't as much fun as it looks like. But we DID get back in one piece. She is, after all, a good driver. Oh, and by the way, the last two stills are courtesy of Girlblue.

So you did get rain there as well, did you?

ah the day I missed. Drippy but at least you got to see the north coast, eat a baconshark and drive the north coast road through the beautiful northern range.

So...can you describe what Bake N Shark is? I'm assuming it has shark in it but what else? I love virtually anything we have ever eaten in the Caribbean. So good.

Girlblue: Oh, it wasn't all that bad. you are, after all, a good driver. And courageous.

Jientje: It rained every day we were there. And this is supposed to be the dry season already.

Tash: Yes. All of that. And Maracas Bay is a beautiful place. And baconshark is GOOOOOOD!

Bama Cheryl: Bake 'N Shark - is a filet of shark, breaded and deep fried (I think - or at least fried in oil) served on a big, light roll - like a croissant - but it's big and round, not horn shaped. You cover with things like sliced tomato, sliced cucumber, other veggies if you wish, and there are various sauces - any one of which helps you individualize the experience.
Delicious - and I don't eat fish. On the other hand, I also like English fish & chips, and this sort of reminds me of that.

Hey! You were driving on the wrong side of the road!!! LOL

Glad to finally see some pictures of you. About that Bake-N-Shark; I'm not a fish eater, but if you say it was good I believe you.

Glad to finally see some pictures of Lou in Trini.

Now that Bake n Shark sounds delicious. I would have had more than a spot on me. I'm one of the messiest eaters around.

That drive looked absolutely enjoyable to me, except for being on the wrong side of the road, LOL. Some beautiful country down there.

I'm thinking that maybe y'll are getting tired of picture stories. hmmmm.

Employee: Linda - I was not driving. Haley was. Too narrow. wrong side of the road. Raining. Recipe for disaster.

Hyphen Mama: I hate pictures of me. Remind me of how old and fat I am.

HollyATOM: It was so pretty - and yes, local traditions, there, are completely edible.

Eric S: Driving down there requires a certain measure of courage - or a complete lack of awareness of the danger.

Sounds brilliant blue sky warm, its freezing here and that was the most snow according to the media that has fallen in TWENTY years, where we live we got 5 inches in some places over a foot and because we are not used to it the countrys virtually ground to a halt, school closures everything.
Im glad you had a good time

I don't understand, I left you a comment earlier and now it's gone. Hmm. Well, let's just say that Bake N Shark sounds intriguing. If I were ever in Trini I might find myself trying it.

I always like little roads like that. As long as I trust my driver.

Hi, I just popped over from Ashley's CLoset...your vacation looks like a good time...what I would give to be at the ocean under blue skies!! But I suppose I'll settle for rain and screaming children. ;)
