She is none other than Girlblue from Rantings & Ramblings and she drove us over winding mountain roads to the north coast of Trinidad and a lovely place called Maracas Bay:
Where Louie found a wandering vendor who sold him a Calabash husk and carved the word Trinidad in the husk:
BUT - not before Girlblue had introduced us to a wonderful Trini tradition called 'Bake & Shark', which I understood to be 'Baconshark' until I finally got to the place where they were sold and I could read the sign. The Trini version of English is actually a foreign language - really.
And, naturally, because I'm just a bit too big around the middle, there's a big drop of grease/oil/something on my shirt and Girlblue naturally had to document the sloppy eating habits of the foreigner. Oh well. SWMBO knows I wear as much as I eat anyway.
And then, on the way back to the hotel, I thought it might be fun to point my little camera out the front window as we drove those little bitty roads through the rain and take a short movie - so I could share.
This wasn't as much fun as it looks like. But we DID get back in one piece. She is, after all, a good driver. Oh, and by the way, the last two stills are courtesy of Girlblue.
