Preparations

Many things happened this weekend. Shopping was done. Packing was done. Not much blogging - but what little blogging that was done was important, because we learned some big, BIG news. Veronica, the lovely Tasmanian mother of Amy and partner of Nathan and author of Sleepless Nights, HAD HER BABY. Mother and son, Isaac, are doing fine.

We leave here Thursday evening. The lovely Miss Ash(POHA) of Into The Rabbit Hole has graciously agreed to cover me while I fly - first to Miami and then, Friday morning, from Miami to Trinidad. Given that I'll be in the air on Thursday evening and not at my keyboard, preparing my Friday post, POHA has graciously consented to guest blog on Friday. It is rare that I have a guest poster here. In fact, she is the first. Go click on her links and get to know her. She is SO worth the effort. And Friday, you will see why.

In the late Spring of 1996 we took a trip. I told the story in this post. As it turned out, that has been the only time that #1 Son has left the shores of this country. Of course, a trip on the Big Red Boat hardly makes one a world traveler, but still, it was out of the country - something that the rest of the family has done on many more occasions and for much greater distances. Circumstances have always seemed to work against #1 making the trips. He always had the opportunity - it's just that it never seemed to work out. This time, we're making it work out. And I couldn't be happier. (And to tell you the truth, #1 Son seems fairly nervous - but a good nervous). I know we're going to have a great time. I hope our Hostess enjoys having us there as much as I know we're going to enjoy being there.

And speaking of our hostess, it is she who taught me this:

Ndinombethe.

I can't believe I didn't comment yesterday. Sorry, I must have had my mind elsewhere.

I know you'll have a good trip, enjoy the time away. I can't wait to hear all about Trinidad. You deserve it. I will miss you but look forward to your guest blogger.

I'm so excited for you preparing for your trip! That's the best feeling. All that anticipation of good times and time away from work. I think everyone can benefit from travel outside of the country at least once just for perspective. Hope your son loves it, too!

Let me get this straight: Lou is going to be shacking up with a fellow blogger? What fun!

I like the way Hyphen Mama put that - I would have said it differently. :) So #1 son is in on this adventure. Good for him and you. I still like traveling with my girls. We'll see how it is to have all of the along at once this summer. I can remember that only happening once before many years ago. Hummmmm wonder why that is?

Sorry. I mis-understood "hostess" to mean "staying with". Maybe "tour guide"????? is a good description?
