Please Remit

Now the trick is to pay for all that stuff. But I wouldn't have it any other way.

Among the gifts I received yesterday, was a book of prose and poetry. "The Poetry and Short Stories of Dorothy Parker". I have glanced through some of it - I think I would have liked knowing this woman. She was, if nothing else, an early Twentieth Century smartass - before it was fashionable for a woman to be a smartass. She was wise, witty and, for years, suicidal. She attempt suicide on at least three occasions - all, fortunately, unsuccessful. She was a depressive, she drank and she had any number of extra marital affairs. She was one whom it might be said, "She lived her life at a merry pace". Knowing what I know of Dorothy Parker, I think I am going to enjoy this book.

But my best gift was Christmas Eve, for on Christmas Eve I had my whole family together. Grannie, Annie, Louie, Alex and Lynn, and Zachary and his girlfriend Lisa. An evening of gift exchanges and food and conviviality ended as we have never ended any other. Louie had purchased a copy of "Across the Universe" as a gift for Grannie and we all sat together, late on Christmas Eve, into Christmas Morning, to watch the movie. If you have ever seen "Across the Universe" you'll appreciate the special nature of the fact that during the movie, no one got up to leave the room. No drinks gotten. No bathroom trips. We all were in amazement that Grannie sat there and actually enjoyed that movie - she thought the scene with the 5 Selma Hayaks was a bit over the top, but other than that, she liked it. We ALL liked it.

These times when we are all together are too rare.

We approach the end of the month now. PLEASE click on the links in the next paragraph and go to the sites they lead to and poke around? Drive traffic and money into Zoeyjane's site - it goes to a good cause.

Zoeyjane of Mommy is Moody is DOING something. She is donating all the revenue from her advertisements on her site, for this month, to To Write Love On Her Arms. Go to Zoeyjane's site and read This Post. She gets paid by 'Impressions'. Just going there helps. Click on her ads - and help more. Click through to To Write Love On Her Arms and see what they do. Just doing that will help, too. This paragraph is going to appear at the end of each post, each day until the end of the month. As a reminder. Just click through. And help. Save the women and men and boys and girls that don't need to live without love, that don't need to suffer addiction and depression, that don't need to die.

Ndinombethe.

"As I go, I am wearing you".

All of you.

Thank you, Tash, for teaching this to me.

Sounds like the perfect way to spend Christmas. Ours was similar in the sense of enjoying the togetherness, and I'm thrilled we get more of it. I haven't read Dorothy Parker or seen the movie, so I just might have to look into both.

That sound magical!

(And I think me and Dorothy might have been friends back in the day, although I'm sure she would have sarcastically teased me mercilessly)

Your Christmas Eve sounds like a lot of love going on. I had to be content to just talk to my family on the phone. Even if I were still living in a "real" house, I would have had to do that. One in Maryland, one in Colorado, and one in Georgia. And me in Arizona.

I love Dorothy Parker- I read a biography a few years ago. I think I could stand to see the likes of her replace people like those bitchy women on those annoying daytime talk shows... ick.

I share my life with someone who loves Salma Hayek. I'll have to suggest this movie.
