Wordy Wednesday - A Child's Story in Rhyme

The Ant, The Bee, and The Horse

I am an ant, and I am very small,
Compared to human beings, who are so very tall.

I am a bee, and I fly through the air,
Unlike human beings, I haven't got a care.

And I am a horse, and I pull a surrey,
Unlike human beings, I haven't got a worry.

Now me, The Ant,
And me, The Bee,
And me, The Working Horse,

We all have one common wish,
To be human beings, of course.

I am a butcher, and I cut meat,
With all other butchers, I must compete.

And I am a baker, and I bake bread,
I'll probably bake, 'til the day I am dead.

And I am a shoemaker, and I make shoes,
To pay my rent, and my union dues.

Now me, The Butcher,
And me, The Baker,
And me, The Little Shoemaker,

Have a common wish, of course,
How very nice it would be, to be,
An Ant, or a Bee, or a Horse.

I am a magician,
And I cast a spell,
They all have their wishes,
And now, all is well.

But I am an ant, and I'm so very small,
compared to human beings, who are so very tall.

et cetera, et cetera,
et cetera, et cetera,
ad infintum.

There is a simple tune that goes with this. One of these days, I'll figure out the notation and publish it. Just for you.

Peace.

Writing is your calling. Painting may be where you relax but this is where you excel.

Such a poignant message in a child's story. Love it Lou, and I have to agree with ayewonder - you excel in writing!!!

I read your work and wonder where it comes from and how you find the inspiration. So impressed! and somewhat jealous - see, I don't learn - I want to be an ant, or a bee, or a horse, or a Lou with writing ability.

Wonderful little story poem you have there. Kids would love it, as do adults. :)

Love this...on a day I just wrote my own thoughts about "the grass on the other side".

My son is already starting to want to be someone/something else--some days he wants to be a growup, other days he'd like to be our cat, Molly. It's so hard to be satisfied with what you got.

I tagged you today in my post. :)

I giggled. Yay for the magic granting wishes. Can I wish for enough money to retire?

Lou Lou Lou!! Days like today I'm really so glad that I have my very own internet connection in my house!! I would've been pissed if I missed the great story!! :)

You are such a fantastic writer... and you can write ANYTHING!! My son will love this rhyme!! I'm also anxious to see what his interpretation of it will be. He is a pretty smart little guy, I can't wait to see what he comes up with. :)

I'm off to read the post below this one that looks really good since you are promising it is fiction!! :P

I cannot wait.

I'm going to jot down this rhyme first... my printer isn't hooked up yet... heck we don't even know where it is ... yet!! Lol

great job, as always!

I loved this. I am going to share this with my 7 year old daughter. She is bright and will definitely understand it. Thanks Lou.

You now need an illustrator of chidlren's books to give it shape and color. I think you have a nice children's book. Good luck.

The grass is always greener, isn't it?

I agree... this is children's book material. I'd buy it. But I think you should also be the illustrator.

Wait. What? said...

This is wonderful!! I love it!
