A Promised Picture

I was really tempted to whip a dead horse and do yet another 100 words in the story we finished yesterday (no, I'm not linking back there) BUT, I realized that I had made a promise to someone that I had failed to fullfil. I had promised hyphen mama from Mommy Needs 5 Minutes to print my First Holy Communion picture on Friday. And I DID NOT DO IT.

Tie me to a tree and call me cowboy, I owe that lovely lady the DEEPEST of apologies.

And I also owe her the promised picture. Without further ado ...

This picture was taken in October, 1952. I just 7 years old. Notice the fashion faux pas. Dressed from head to toe in white, and it's after the 15th of September. But then, in MY neighborhood, they didn't really give two hoots about fashion rules. And now, as an adult, I can look back at the cost associated with that outfit (required by the church and school) and how hard it probably hit my parents.

You were such a sassy lookin' thing at 7 with your hands on your hips.

Actually, that's the stance my son uses to pee into the toilet. He doesn't have a whole lot of accuracy.

maggie's mind: First Holy Communion was a BIG deal. And yeah, I thought I looked cool.

warriorwoman: I was proud. I was.

jennifer: No, not a wise guy, at least I don't think so. It took me a long time to grow enough confidence to be a smart-ass. I think it started about a year ago.

witchypoo: Yeah, it DOES!

myst_72: Yeah, like I said, I was.

hyphen mama: I made a promise.

alice: Tell that boy he's never going to be able to write his name in the snow with his hands on his hips. Gotta use at least one hand (two fingers, actually - thumb and index) to aim.

I love little boys this age, when they aren't too cool to show pride or tears or.......

Yes. You have the same face!

Interesting...

Awww. Did the girls wear the veils then? I didn't have a veil, but I did have something with flowers in a crown thing. Love the first communion shot.

Hey - you were just fashion forward before your time. Look at P. Diddy! He TOTALLY stole your all white thing. But you rock it better!

Love the picture Lou. My recollection is that communion was in May/June. Am I wrong about that?
