100 Word Challenge - Quilt

What follows is offered in response to Velvet Verbosity's 100 Word Challenge. The challenge, this week, is "Quilt".

100 Word Challenge

Old Hands

Whomever it was that had made the quilt was an artist. All the other quilts in the museum had a homey, homespun look to them.  This one was special.

The stitching was perfect, each square of the quilt was just that - square.  The central squares were larger, and darker in color.  They formed a cross.  All the other lighter, smaller, squares formed concentric patterns around the dark central ones.

The woman who made the quilt made one a year, and this was the last one she made.  It's been said, there just weren't any more quilts in those old hands.

Handmade quilts seem to have a little bit of the person who made them woven into the design. I know I always slept better under quilts my grandmother made.

One last quilt. I wonder what the one last thing will be that I have in me to gift to the world...
