100 word Challenge - Once

What follows is offered in response to Velvet Verbosity's 100 Word Challenge. The challenge, this week, is "Once".

"Keep your head down, you dumb fuck!!!  You wanna get killed?"

Sergeant Wurster fairly screamed at Private Pearlman as yet another round snapped through the branches right over his head.

They were pinned down by a pair of snipers.  Two of his men were dead already and this thicket they were in was the only cover within a hundred yards.  Everything else was rice paddy.

"Did you see anything, Pearlman?"

"No, Sarge.  There's trees over there and there's a hill over there but there's no way to tell where they are.  Someone else needs to look.  I did my "once".
