Monday Menaders

CUBS, in a scheduling marvel that I hope is unique to THIS year, play the final game of a four game set with the METS today.  After winning yesterday's game, they're in a position to split the series.  Pitching to the Fore!!  Jake Arrieta pitched a marvelous game and deserved the win, but Relief gave up the tying run and Castro's homer in the top of the ninth gave the win to the pitcher who gave up the tying run.  One of those "Not Fair" things about Baseball.

Saturday was spent in the company of friends from "Listen To Your Mother".  A picnic.  At a cast member's home.  It was a fun day and a good time was had by all.  I brought hot dogs and beer.  And I came home sober.

Coming home sober was important, because the night before I had been to a celebration of an LYTM cast member's 39th birthday and I had just a bit too much rum.  The hangover was unique - first one in many years and I had forgotten just how much I didn't enjoy them.  Oy.

I cannot, for the life of me, understand what's going on in Ferguson.  All the facts are not in - or at least, not on public display.  Still, it seems like a massive over-reaction on both sides.  That said, the Police have more and better guns.  I wonder why the SIZE of the Police response.  And the military tactics.

The Summer. the all-too-brief, never-warm-enough Summer is winding down.  I wonder what Fall and winter will bring?

Ndinombethe.  Ubuntu.

I'm from California and I remember the riots from the 60's,80's & 90's. I agree that wrongs by authorities need to be brought to light, but there is no excuse for destruction of property as a way to protest. Not today. The actions of a few are making the whole town look bad. I used to live 20 minutes from Ferguson. It was a somewhat quiet town, until now. Congrats on your 36 years! We will celebrate 38 next month!

Babies! The winter will bring babies! :)

This morning, as I walked along the docks to my car, I smiled because the morning breeze was cool. That means fall is just around the corner. And I heart fall. I don't wish summer away when it's here but when autumn is peeking through, it's hard not to be excited about it. At least here in New England.

Like you said, we probably don't have all the facts about Ferguson. But I find it hard to blame people for being angry when an unarmed teenager is shot six times (from a distance, no powder burns) by someone sworn to protect and serve. And the police response to that anger? I'm not sure which plays with more resonance for me... cowardice or an immature delight in getting to play GI Joe.

...that line in a previous comment sums up one of the biggest problems with the militarization of our LOCAL police forces... the market for growth in the defense area has just gone to our neighborhood police agencies and as imperfect as they are, rife with prejudices and insufficent oversight, we know have local kids who are not drilled or governed by the same kind of ethics that soldiers are, armed LIKE soldiers... in effect, becoming an occupying force without the training or expectations of a soldier... scary stuff, and it makes it a bit easier for Big Brother to do his thing...

I can understand the anger - on both sides. It's going to be really hard to calm everyone down, too. There have been so many mistakes made, on all sides, for too long.
