100 Word Challenge - Mill

What follows is offered in response to Velvet Verbosity's 100 Word Challenge. The challenge, this week, is "Mill".

100 Word Challenge
She stood in cold, ankle deep water, searching with her hands in the slimy bed of the river for the piece of History she felt certain was there.

The town, all wrapped up in the concerns of the day, had let History slide.  No one remembered the mill that had stood here, alongside the river.  There was no trace, any longer, and no one cared to recall what existed 180 years ago.

But she found the mill race.  Still there.  Still in the bottom of the river, along the bank.

Now she had to find a way to tell people.

There is so much left unsaid here, but in these few words, you've crafted so much mystery and intrigue.

...I am with Tara... why would the townsfolk not concern themselves with such a discovery..?

Nicely told, I could feel the slimy river bed!
