100 Word Challenge - Roaring

What follows is offered in response to Velvet Verbosity's 100 Word Challenge. The challenge, this week, is "Roaring".

100 Word Challenge

The Noise

He had no idea where he was. His eyes were tightly shut and his fists were beating on his temples, hoping, somehow, to stop the roaring in his head.

He heard nothing; nothing but that noise he could not defeat.  He felt nothing but his knuckles as he struck himself in vain.

The roaring hurt.  Deep.  Inside.

Nurse Petty saw him standing in the corner, rocking back and forth.  Pounding on his head.  Again.  He wasn't wearing his helmet.  Again.

He felt cool fingers on his cheek and the safety of his helmet on his head.

"Thank you", he said.

I can see this scene to clearly through your words, so clearly that it hurts my heart.
