100 Word Challenge - Shaky

What follows is offered in response to Velvet Verbosity's 100 Word Challenge. The challenge, this week, is "Shaky".

100 Word Challenge

The picture that hung on the wall was that of a Scottish warrior, kneeling on one knee, head bowed as he held a broadsword stuck into the ground.  He was dirty and disheveled - a strange figure, for a portrait - but the painting hung in a place of honor, above the fireplace.

The old man spoke to his grandson.

"My grandfather painted that, Robbie.  Where I am old and shaky, at my age he was strong, firm and fit.  And that painting?  Is of HIS grandfather at the same age."

"Wow, Gramps."

"Yeah.  Wow.  Oh, to be that hale and strong."

Oh to come from good warrior stock!

Funny how humans were more robust into old age in different times and places, but now they live much longer in a more frail state.

Love the mental imagery here.

Lou, this is a beautiful picture of familial pride - and frail humanity

I love the comparison of the old man to the warrior in the painting-such a difference. Velvet Verbosity is right, it is interesting that while we live longer nowadays, we don't necessarily live better than past generations.
