100 Word Challenge - Dust

What follows is offered in response to Velvet Verbosity's 100 Word Challenge. The challenge, this week, is "Dust".

Haiku Friday

Trail Rider

He got down off his horse, stepped up out of the street and slapped two days of dust off his chaps and shirt with his hat.

Riding drag and chasing down strays is hard work and the herd was still a week out of Dodge City, so the stop in this little hole-in-the-wall town was just what he needed. A cold drink and a night with a woman and he'd be ready to face another week in the saddle.

He pushed through the swinging doors and sauntered up to the bar.

"What'll ya have, cowboy?"

"Sasparella."

How appropriate that I was drinking a root beer when I read this. Loved your ending.

It didn't occur to me until I read this that I'm surprised I haven't seen more "Western" from you. It seems totally natural and right.
