What follows is offered in response to Velvet Verbosity's 100 Word Challenge. The challenge, this week, is "Beyond".
Green gone and the flourish of life
Trees gone bare and stark
Looking like grey old men
arms upraised and begging
Leaves float by and fall to ground
On grass long brown and dormant
The new fledged birds have flown away
South, to familiar places
they've not been before
Leaves decay and feed the Earth
Under a tablecloth of snow
Rich repast for worms and such
The critters burrow deep
beyond the reach of Winter cold
Trees are felled, cut to cords
Hearths are warmed, hovels cozied
beyond the reach of Winter's cold.

you make me feel like burrowing in deep and waiting it out...
I loved this line, " Looking like grey old men/ arms upraised and begging." Beautifully descriptive.
Poetry! Good for you. It's all good, but the second stanza is wonderful, and my favorite.
I have the autumn blues as we speak, my whole being misses summer , but this poem comforted me and made me appreciate a warm fire, a chunky blanket, a soft wrapped sweater...not so much long for it, but think of them without teary eyes.
I love your words Lou.
Sigh. Many years living in the mountains of Vermont has made me very nostalgic about Fall and Winter. Thanks for this.
