100 Word Challenge - Epicurean

What follows is offered in response to Velvet Verbosity's 100 Word Challenge. The word is "Epicurean".

 100 Word Challenge June 25 2012

The Fat Man

He wheezed heavily as he slowly trudged up the stairs. Third floor walkups will do that to the
young and slender, much less a man of his size and girth.

Years of epicurean delights lay upon him now, making it difficult to do the simplest of things, like getting to his rooms.

The days of elevators and doormen were gone.  Ease and comfort were memories.

How far he had fallen.

He sat on the top step, at the last landing. He needed to catch his breath, rest his tired legs.

That's how he was found; dead, and blocking the stairs.

What a sad, even grim, story. Packed an emotional wallop.

This could be a metaphor for so many things and so many people... I wonder how he got to this station in life..? Also, I wonder if he felt fulfilled or not??

Its easy to use an addiction like food or other things to cover up the true pain. Once it gets to far its hard to turn back. So sad. Very well written.

oh, my . . . well done, Lou. I always think that if I had to do stairs several times a day there might be less of me . . . maybe not.

A heartbreaking tale.

Is it bad that I was happy he didn't roll back down the stairs. Sorry... it was the first thing that popped into my head :(

Good write though!!

oh I liked that, the last line was pitch perfect. I wonder if he, like me, wonders often how I'll be remembered or where I'll be at the end of my life. WOW.
