Friday morning we had a disposal company drop a dumpster on our driveway. We have some heavy duty stuff to do around the house. We want to clean out the detritus that has accumulated in the garage over the years, the basement has needed "thinning" for some time, and there's just going to be a lot of stuff to dispose of. Thus the dumpster.
The thing is, the appearance of a dumpster, in our neighborhood anyway, usually heralds a moving truck within a short period of time and disappearing neighbors.
So yesterday morning, as I carried the first load out of the garage, to the dumpster, my next door neighbor just happened to pull up on his driveway, having run some errand or other, saw me, jammed on his brakes, jumped out of his car, and yelled, "You guys aren't moving, are you?"
Never has that phrase been uttered with clearer intent and meaning - and never have I felt more appreciated, as a neighbor, than I did yesterday morning.
Damn that felt nice.

it is nice to be appreciated. I bet you are a great neighbor.
Yeah I can imagine the feeling made your back a little straighter... to know that you are valued and appreciated, even by folks you make small talk or help rake leaves during the fall (or cry in your beer with whenever the Lions sweep the Bears!)
Awww... and you're a nice blog neighbour too :)
I know if I had you as a neighbor, I'd be upset at the prospect of you moving!
That definitely was nice.
Ah, savor the moment. It speaks to you about you.
HA! That's so true. Usually the appearance of a dumpster is not a good sign if you love your neighbor!
A sad sign of the times, so many dumpsters showing up...
I'm not a bit surprised. I'm sure you are a great neighbor!
