LOTR

I should be sleeping. It's getting late and I have much to do tomorrow. But "Lord of the Rings" is on the 'Encore Network' on the cable.

In 1966, when I first came home from the Service, I was introduced to two things which fascinated me - a board game called "Gettysburg", by Avalon Hill Corporation, and a book called "The Hobbitt", by J.R.R. Tolkein. Not long after I found and read "The Hobbitt", I read "The Lord of the Rings".

I was shaken. I was affected to the very core of my being. I had never read ANYTHING written with such imagination before. I spent the longest time wishing the Middle Earth was real, that it was someplace to which I might go ... and live there.

The cool thing?

On Sunday, Encore is going to present all three Extended Version movies - back to back to back - uncut and commercial free. Roughly 11 hours of kick ass, amazing, real as hell LOTR. I may have to watch.

For me it was the animate movie version that hypnotized me... then my Mother purchase all 4 volumes of the Hobbit and Middle Earth books...

The Encore special sounds like a man-cave kind of day..! Enjoy your viewing..!

We have the extended DVDs, and we watched them ALL at the end of the Summer Holidays. They are making 'The Hobbit' now, and Peter Jackson has regular updates on YouTube with filming stuff and whatnot. Look for it!

The Hobbit and LOTR will remain on my 'Re-read' list until they pry the books out of my cold, dead hands.

I also have the box set of LOTR DVDs. I think a holiday movie marathon is needed.
