I have just fallen in love with the "Law of Unintended Consequences".
Before I tell you why, I have to tell you why that is so counter to my experience.
I do computers for a living. The kind of computers and computing I do are far more intricate and complex than what you deal with at home, or at your desk at work. I work in infrastructure - the things that support computers and their ability to talk to each other. And I build and support servers - those things your home and office computers typically talk to. I can't tell you the number of times that I've installed new software, someplace, upgraded software, someplace, applied a patch, someplace, satisfied a need in one place and created a need somewhere else - BECAUSE of the install, upgrade, or patch. Fix it here - break it over there. I have become a firm believer in the old adage, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
Nobody MEANS to break anything, it's just that Law at work.
Yesterday, I heard something interesting. Something that just cries out to me, "Here comes the Law!!!"
The FDA is going to approve Cialis for managing BPH (enlarged prostate).
You see, what all you young people out there don't understand is just what BPH is - what it does. Oh, I know you've heard all the symptoms on the Radio and TV, in those Viagra and Cialis commercials. But they don't tell you everything about those symptom. Just as BPH comes on you gradually, and the symptoms approach you gradually, other things sneak up on you gradually, as well. Like a gradual decrease in libido. Not that libido completely disappears, it's just that just like an erection, it takes a bit to get it up.
Cialis helps. Erections AND libido.
They're going to help a generation of men with BPH.
The Law says, however, they're also going to create a whole generation of Senior Citizen Horn Dogs.
This is going to be fun to watch.

...eww... don't know how much 'fun' that is going to be... I have already promised myself that if the 'old soldier can't bring himself to salute the flag at reveille, then he will just 'fade away'...
Just can't see myself using a drug to do something like that... and since I like 'age appropriate women', I would be a little surprised if 'Miss Who-ever-she-is' is not pretty much done herself... unless she uses stuff that 'inadvertently' 'aids lubrication'... still, imagining Hugh Hefner and a young woman is bad enough... don't want to imagine myself trying (and mostly failing) to chase a nubile 20-something powered by some drug...
Bring it on. Whatever helps men and women stay sexually active, fulfilled and happy is a good thing.
Or, very, very scary!
Heh! You blog about the most fun stuff! And when the phenomenon occurs, we can say Lou predicted it would happen.
So, you're going to have some company in the DOM club, then?
