What follows is in response to the 100 Word Challenge, authored by the very together Velvet Verbosity. The word this week is "Split".
It was a dark room, lit only by a shaded bulb hanging over the table in the center. Thin wisps of smoke hung below the bulb, while on the table, a large stack of wrapped greenbacks showed pale in the strong light from above.
On the floor next to the table, several bodies lay in various positions, dark pools of blood visible next to or under each one. A dark man, tall and almost invisible, stood just outside the reach of the bulb. A smoking pistol in his hand, he laughed softly to himself.
"I'm so sorry boys", he said, softly. "I never said I wanted to split the money."
