Monday Meanders 6-13

The Cubs are now 14 games UNDER .500. I can't take it anymore. Go Sox.

As you know, I find music to be, at times, very evocative. One of the most evocative, for me, is Beethoven's 7th, 2nd Movement. The first 2 minutes and 30 seconds of that piece are incredible. Anyway. Watching '60 Minutes' last night, during the piece they did on 'The King's Speech', I realized the background music in at least part of the movie is none other than Beethoven's 7th. 2nd Movement. The good part. I guess I'm going to have to see the movie after all.

I have a friend I met in Trinidad who is descended from the Plantagenets. For those who are "History Challenged", The Plantagenets ruled in England before the Tudors. There are those who feel the Plantagenets have a legitimate claim to the throne of England - although the current ruling family isn't likely to give it up, the days of raising an army to assert one's claims are long since passed away, and besides, who'd want to rule England now, anyway? The Tudors gave up all the really good stuff to being a King or Queen. Anyway. I've picked up a book by Philippa Gregory called 'The White Queen'. It's the story of Elizabeth Woodville, an ancestor of my friend, and mother of the two lost princes of the Tower of London - their disappearance a mystery that is yet unsolved. It should be a fascinating read - the more so for knowing her distant descendant.

Why would anyone with a name like 'Wiener' even GO into politics in the first place?

I'm sorry. That was mean. :)

LM is in Wisconsin. Enjoying herself at the various water parks and such at Wisconsin Dells. I get to stay home and work.

I know. I'm perfect. :)

More or less.

I wish I could have tagged along and went to the Dells!

Maybe 'Wiener' sounded like 'winner' to the voters and his name tested high in polling...

You could always root for the Tigers... they are playing well...

Cool brush with greatness. Being able to say that you are familiar with the true ruling family of England is rare and special (to me it is!!)

I liked "The King's Speech". Geoffrey Rush is brilliant!

I'm just finishing The White Queen and have found it fascinating. You'll love the King's Speech when you go - great movie.

And Weiner - what a doofus.

Enjoy your new book. Sounds like a safe thing to do while LM is out of town.

I loved The King's Speech, even though I only saw it on a tiny airline screen... I'm going to get it on DVD and force Sean to watch it while he's on leave.

Good thing my grandmother wasn't alive to see the latest 'royal' wedding, she would have had a fit! I thought it was brilliant!

So, um. We used to have a Congressman in NH named Dick Swett. Wouldn't you think going into politics that he would go by Richard instead? Nope.

I still giggle like a 12 year old when I hear a clip of him introducing himself.

Go Sox? Go Mav's! Woo-Hoo! It's ALL about the Dallas Mavericks winning the 2011 NBA CHAMPIONSHIP.
Oops... sorry. I get carried away.
You're right, of course, why would anyone with that name be in politics. However, don't you think the name fits the nature of the "crimes" perfectly? It's like meant to be or something. Kismet?
