What follows is in response to the 100 Word Challenge, authored by the solid Velvet Verbosity. The word this week is "Chasm".
"You lied to me."
"No, I didn't. I didn't tell you everything."
"No difference. You lied. How can I trust you now? You've never lied to me before. Or have you?"
"No. No, I haven't. Look, I'm sorry. If I had known you would react this way, I wouldn't have held anything back."
"The TRUTH is all there should ever be between us - it shouldn't depend on anyone's reaction."
"You're right. Of course you're right. I am so sorry."
He stood there, wondering, how things had gone so wrong, how they would ever bridge the chasm suddenly thrust between them.
Ndinombethe.
P.S. This last Tuesday evening I was at a function which included a whole bunch of Chicago Bloggers and Tweeters. I had thought to publish pictures of this today, but I don't have all the identities I need for the pictures. Yet. So, I figure Saturday and Sunday ought to be just the right time to publish those shots.

I like the concept of 'chasm'... and I like how you played it in this story... nice and ambigous and it keeps turning over in my head at the possiblities...
An omission is still a lie. Again, wonderful dialog.
Half-truths.... Ahhhh....
You are so good at dialogue. I keep saying it, but it's true.
oooohhhh - what Tara said. My catholic school upbringing all those years - a sin of OMISSION is equal to a sin of COMMISSION. :)
good read as always, sir. well said.
truth... secrets... Sometimes something so 'little' can screw everything up.
Unless it wasn't so 'little'.
I wonder what happened...
Aw, she over-reacted.
I guess I think we all lie at some point or another and it is often the right thing to do.
Breach of trust creates the deepest chasm between humans.
