What follows is in response to the 100 Word Challenge, authored by the soothing Velvet Verbosity. The word this week is "Harsh".
"Don't you think you were a bit harsh?", she asked.
"I suppose maybe I was."
"Why? What happened to 'Love, Kindness and Understanding'?"
"There's a time and a place for everything. This wasn't it."
"But you've always said .."
"I know what I've always said. Don't throw my words back at me."
"It just seemed a bit hypocritical, that's all."
"No, it was not hypocritical. It was Kindness. He has so many lessons to learn - I needed to teach him this one before he learned it the hard way. Better me than someone with no kindness in their heart for him."

he's got a point there...
VERY TRUE! It takes wisdom to know when "tough love" must be used.
Ahhh... parenting adolescents, I get this.
Love this. My husband would agree. I think we've had a similar conversation many times over;)
Hmmm...tough love indeed! This makes me want to hear what the father said to the son.
Came over from Becky's blog and found this; it's exactly what I needed to read today. You have so many talents, Lou, or perhaps it's that you have so MUCH talent and the ability to express it in so many ways. I will enjoy visiting, reading, and learning from you...
We all want to keep our kids from learning things the hard way. Sometimes we can.
I keep hearing the Father from 'the walton's' as I read this... very good!!
Sometimes a little 'tough love' is exactly what's needed. Nice dialogue.
Sometimes being kind means coming down hard. We always end up experiencing this at some point in parenting.
