100 Word Challenge - Ditch

What follows is in response to the 100 Word Challenge, authored by THE woman one would NEVER abandon, Velvet Verbosity. The word this week is "Ditch".

100 Word Challenge

Loner

In another day and age, he would have been the rebel, the loner, the kid in the black leather jacket and long swirly black hair.

He's a loner. He's a rebel. But rebels don't get the respect that motorcycle boots used to earn.

He has pierced ears, a nose ring and a stud through his lip. He wears black eyeliner and white makeup and he almost never speaks much above a murmur.

He leaned up against the locker next to hers, looking down, hands in his pockets.

He worked up his courage, raised his head and asked, "Hey. Wanna ditch?"

Oh those rebel boys...they're the biggest softies of all. Or maybe fragile is the word I'm looking for. Yes, fragile.

My word verification is "canifib", as in "Can I Fib?".

Well...can I?

I loved all my rebels. This was a wonderous character outline. I want more of him. (Hugs)Indigo

The chicks do love a Bad Boy. I'm glad that I lived in the black leather and motorcycle boots age though. Those goth, guy-liner boys simply don't measure up.

Maybe it is me...

Looking quizzically, "Ditch? Me??" she answered. Really, 'with you?' was in mind, because his look was an ode a hipster-punk cool now passe.

Shutting her locker, sweetly whispering 'no', he slowly deflated like a leaking balloon. "I need to go to class," pausing to spin her combination locker. "Mrs. Parker is giving a test and I need to try to make a grade, to show I have been trying."

Trying to conceal his ebbing enthusiasm, he replies with a snarl. "I get it." Stalking away, he mutters to himself. "Girls."

With a half pirouette, she smiles. "Boys," she says softly.

Hi Lou-I just wanted to stop by to say hi...I've been really horrible about reading and clicking over to comment lately...I'm very sorry about that!

I'm going to try harder-really, really try harder to come by more often...I hope you forgive me!

Aah, ditching with the bad boy. Love it! Great 100 words - encapsulated so much about high school perfectly.

My prime time fell right in between. When I was in high school, "cool" for guys was mulletts and perms. Or maybe I never knew anyone rebellious enough to make a fair comparison :)

Interesting piece, Lou. I liked it!

Oooooooo! I would have loved it if the loner had asked me to ditch. I wouldn't have done it, because I was too much of a goody-two-shoes, but to just be asked. SQUEE!

You have a remarkable way of getting into your character's skin. And in just 100 words!

Funny how so many people thought of teens when we got the prompt, Ditch. Mine is on teen angst - a girl's.
