100 Word Challenge - Fortune

What follows is in response to the 100 Word Challenge, authored by the valuable Velvet Verbosity. The word this week is "Fortune".

100 Word Challenge

My Fortune

"Look around you and tell me what you see."
"I see your stronghold, Sire. I see demonstrations of your wealth, your power, your influence."
"You see all that do you?"
"Aye, Sire, I do. There are great tapestries on all the walls, there are men at arms stationed throughout, and emissaries from every court come to pay tribute."
"All those things mean nothing."
"Sire?"
"Lift that tapestry. Tell me what you see."
"Books, Sire. Hundreds of books. So?"
"'So?', he asks. So? They fill my mind, with what cannot be taken away. They are my wealth. You see my fortune."

Ndinombethe.

p.s. I think I would have made a good King.

Oh I'm SURE you would! One that paints beautiful stories in only one hundred words.

Oh, yes, Sire, you surely would have made a great king. Love the rich tapestry of your words, and love the message woven within. Sire.

Sometimes I think that if I read enough good writing that it will rub off and I will become a good writer, too.

I may have to try to do a 'challenge'. No promises!

Wait, I thought you were supposed to write a story about Fortune that included the words "Heather" and "lottery winnings" and "yacht" and "sailing the ocean blue" and "plundering" and "X marks the spot!"

Not shallow at all. Nope. Certainly not.

Then I must be the richest woman on the block.

I think you would make a good king too.

I think in a past life you were Shakespeare. I love how this just lives inside you and you didn't take the easy "fortune" route, but worked and weaved it into this tiny 100 words that expresses more than 100 words should ever express.
