Recropping a picture

It's funny, sometimes, how the simplest thing can change your assumptions.

I published a photo some time ago, called

Nobody's Home
.

When I cropped it I thought the picture was best served by getting in tight on the features of the shot which I felt were most important - which included the hole in the ceiling where the stovepipe used to exit, and the round bit of sunlight it lets through to the floor on the opposite side of the car.

I had the shot printed today at 11X14, and it drastically changed the crop. It now looks like this:

This is what was there all along - the lonely, empty feeling of the place - and was lost when I cropped the picture to emphasize the 'features'.

Sometimes I do better by accident than I ever might have done on purpose.

Sometimes, when you look too hard to find the 'features', you wind up overlooking the obvious.

I am going to frame this print in a dark frame with gray matting, and then it will become part of the "Holiday Hoopla Giveaway" on Mommycosm's blog - whenever she gets it all organized and ready to go. If you would like to have it, all you have to do is win. This print, for what it's worth, will be signed on the back and dated with today's date. So far, it's the only actual print of this version of the shot. I may print a few more, and frame them, for sale, if anyone would like. Given the cost of printing and framing, it would have to sell for $50, plus shipping.

All you have to do is let me know - if you would like one. Signed. And dated. And framed.

Ndinombethe.

p.s. This is the first time I have ever actually solicited interest in one of my photos. It feels a little weird.

It looks awesome.
Yes, sometimes a little change of perspective does it all.

No worries about doing a bit of advertising for your Photography.
You'll get used to it ;)

See? This is why I NEVER photoshop. Or maybe it's because I'm lazy.

I remember this shot... always liked the emotions of the image. The re-edit just adds to that angst. Wonderful capture. I love the light and shadow-play across the whole shot.

I too remember these two shots, and I liked them. I still do. The 2 photos make an important point. We all have a perspective when we look at things. Sometimes it is referred to as perception. Selective perception is a part of us all, but the ability to recognize that makes it possible for us to see another perspective. Lou challenges himself all the time to see another perspective.

They're beautiful, both of them, but the second one is more dramatic. The spectator is being led into the image by the shadows and the sunlight. It's a work of Art.

It's such a lonely picture,
so full of loss and the door
is so far away...

I like the second one, you realize the length with the extra set of windows on the left side.

I've tried soliciting. I suck at it, and it never works.

Beautiful shot- I love it. If I could afford one, I'd definitely buy it.
