Friday Haiku - Mad Hatter

Haiku Friday

I'm late, I'm late. For
a very important date.
Said the Mad Hatter.

Me too. Mea Culpa. But - I'm here now and that's what matters.

I hope everyone is ready for the long Labor Day Weekend. The unofficial end of summer.

When I was a kid, Labor Day marked the end of the season at Aunt Louise's resort out at Bangs Lake. Usually, us 'family' kids - the one's who were related in some way to one another, and got to stay out there ALL SUMMER LONG - were long gone by then. The morning chores of cleaning up the picnic ground, bailing out the rowboats and cleaning the seaweed off the shoreline were left to others. But the oars had all been stowed in the storage area under Cottage #2, the one on the side of the hill, and the boats were pulled up onto the shore and turned over so they wouldn't fill with water. It was always the sad part of the summer - leaving Aunt Lou's. There were always friendships that had developed over the summer. Families always came to Aunt Lou's with kids in tow. I really think that's why all us family kids were encouraged to stay out there for the summer - so there would always be somebody for the Cottage Kids to play with. I guess Shady Crest was the original 'Kid Friendly' place to go.

I guess, if you had to be 'used' - that was the way to have it happen.

Have a great weekend. Speaking of the weekend, there should be two 'tastes' of Sarah over the weekend - and maybe on Monday I will lay out my vision of the way the rest of the story is going to play out. Maybe.

We'll see. (I always hated it when my Dad said "We'll see", because it usually meant 'No". But not here. At least, I don't think so.)

Ndinombethe.

It sounds like a lovely place to spend the summer.

I tell my kids "We'll see" all the time. Sometimes they forget about it and sometimes it means yes.

What a wonderful way to spend summers. I hope you have a lovely weekend, too.

My parents were the same way about "we'll see." It always led to "no."

That sounds so (Dirty Dancing) Kellerman's. We didn't have a camp, per se, but my grandparents had a lakehouse that we visited frequently throughout the summer. No other kids, though, so not quite as much excitement, but still fun. I wish I had something like that to offer my kids.

Enjoy the long weekend!

I feel a little down this time of the year, its like that song we used to sing back at school "Summer Goodbye", but here in the UK it hasnt really been much of a summer despite the promise of a scorcher, and this week has been wet and windy nearly everyday.

Have a great weekend too Lou. And BTW I love reading about Sarah. I read all your posts in my reader it's just SO hard to comment with three kids during breakfast and I have not the slightest minute throughout the day to get to the computer until night. But I do love Sarah updates.

What great summer memories! My parents still say "We'll see" and I'm 27! LOL! (In fact, as I started reading this my dad was giving me that line...)

The end of summer always meant to me the end of reading. I was a mad, mad reader and I hated that, during school, I never had time to read what I wanted.
