100 Word Challenge - Fear

What follows is in response to the 100 Word Challenge, authored by the heroic Velvet Verbosity. The word is ... fear.

100 Word Challenge

He wanted to go to his Mom, but he could NOT leave his bed. There were monsters under there. They would grab his feet and drag him under and do horrible things to him. The things monsters do. He would be okay as long as he stayed under the blanket. Monsters cannot get you when you are under your blanket. But he really wanted to get to his Mom. She would hug him. She would hold him. She would make the monsters go away. After all, Moms are big and very strong. Moms do NOT know the meaning of Fear.

All of you Moms out there, with little boys. This is who and what you are to a little boy. I know. I used to be one.

That was precious, Lou. These days Moms all come armed with a lil somethin' somthin' called 'Monster Spray'. It's pretty effective in combination with that hug :)

Awe! That is such a nice story---in a monsters-driven-away-by-mommies sort of way.

I don't try to convince my kids there are no monsters...so far I've told them that ALL the monsters live at their cousin's house...with his mom. So far, so good.

I had my 19 year old son come in and read this. His response.

"Word!"

In other words, he thought this was totally spot on and that one little WORD he uttered, totally made my day.

Brilliant! I love it.

That is precious, and someday, I hope I'll know that feeling of being "Mom".

Awww...I remember those days. What a sweet rendition. My 12 yr old has outgrown those days but he called for me last night around midnight and it was sweet in it's own sleepy kinda way. Not WHY he woke me (he was sick) but the fact that he did.

And yeah, I had "monster spray" for a little bit when he was little.

You've really hit on something--there's something between a son's love for his mother (and vice versa) that seems to transcend time. For example, whenever a football player wins a championsip he always remember to thank his mom or tell her he loves her.

Wonderfully written too.

That was fantastic! There was a line in the movie The Crow: Mother is the word for God on the lips of children. I've always loved that. This made me think of that.

Oh! That is so lovely.... some days I feel as if I'm hanging on by my fingernails (hear that nasty scraping sound?) and then... and then... you remind me that my children DO think that I hang the moon and sprinkle the stars across the sky, just for them.

And yes, I am crying. slightly.

It is lovely. And now I'm scared to go to bed. ;-)

Oh, I remember that feeling!

Oh how I've missed these 100 word challenges!

You captured that childhood fear of monsters so well. It's wonderful how children view their parents while young. It's precious.

You mean V is back. I'm glad you dropped by to ask about me. Everything is fine --- I've just lost my blog mojo. Maybe 100 Word Challenge can get it back for me.

Thanks for dropping by and spurring me on. I've actually missed you and others in my absence.

Oh, and your 100 Words excellent as was the Friday Haiku and your excuses for not posting Sarah's story.
