Missing in action

Some of you may have noticed a little less of me out and about. It's just that in the last few days I've been working against a network gremlin that's been especially intractable. (Damn. Another good word. Thats' like TWO, recently)

I have worked about 24 hours in the last two days - and then, when I've gotten home, Luscious and I have sat and worked even more - remotely. Kinda puts a crimp in the blogging style.

Hopefully, today will see a solution and an end to the issue.

Because, when I get home, I have stuff I want to do. And I REALLY don't want to miss anything.

Speaking of Luscious ....

I have seen a few commercials in Microsoft's "I'm a PC" series that kind, sorta, irritate me. A little. I guess it's nitpicking, really - but it's my nit and I'm going to pick it.

I have seen two separate commercials, each with one of the following lines: 1) "I'm not cool enough to be a Mac person". 2) "Macs seem to be more about aesthetics than computing power".

Somehow, especially when you consider the truthfulness of Apple's Mac vs PC commercials, the little digs and asides that these lines represent are somewhat less than honest.

Okay - my opinion ...

Everyday I use PC's running Windows, PC's running Linux, and a lone MacBook Pro running OS X Leopard. I can tell you this - my MacBook has never not done what I've asked it to do. It's never locked up. It's never crashed. It's got a great User Interface and I have NEVER had to go to the command line to fix an underlying issue.

It's easy. And I AM cool enough to be a Mac person. And I love the aesthetics of my very powerful Mac system.

Microsoft, I am flipping you the virtual flying fickle finger of fate.

Ndinombethe.

My first few machines were macs, and I loved them. Totally reliable. But then, economics dictated that I get a PC. Because when I went to geek school, all the software was free. I'm convinced that is why Microcrap has made such inroads into the market.

Oh, I'm with you on this, as on so much else. I just got a new iMac (I 'donated' the other to the children. They needed one, right? Almost as much as I 'needed' a new iMac?).

We've been Mac-i-fied for the last six years, and I love, love, LOVE them.

I'm proof that they aren't just for the cool. Although you are! Cool, that is.

People that use Apple computers are "The Chosen". What that means is: we are chosen to shine the light for the rest. Being part of a minority isn't always easy, take my word for it. But, those of us who use a MacBook Pro know we have the better "book". My whole family are Apple people, but then we are comfortable being in the minority on several levels.

Apple rules!!!

I love my Mac. Does that make me one of the chosen? Cool.

I'm a mac girl myself. Like you, I use a PC at the office. I've never found Mac people to be the snobs that PC companies allege us to be. In fact, I think it's quite the opposite.

I come from a family of Mac users. (If you check out my post today there is a comment form Macdady. THAT is my dad. That's how serious he is.) I'm pretty sure my dad would say that maybe not everyone IS cool enough for Macs and he's totally okay with that.

Lou, you're cool whether you have a MacBook or not - not the case for most people though ;)

Col's company, EA Sports, has Dell's second largest equipment contract but when you enter that place, it's Mac everywhere you look. I dunno, it seems to be more of a trendy thing in the cafeteria booths and public areas...but when you go upstairs all of the art creative teams use Mac through and through.

Those commercials irritate me, too, and I'm not a Mac user. Only because I can't afford it and would never put it on credit. If I could, I would have one.

Did you get that gremlin down?

Loraine said...

Well said. I wish I could afford a Mac! They do seem superior.

There are many commercials that put out messages that bother me a LOT. Like a pharmaceutical ad with a doctor advising a teenager that "acne, even when it's mild, is a medical condition. That's right kids- you got a zit, you need to see a doctor!
Another one is the iPhone ad. The scroungy- looking guy says he doesn't need need one while his well- dressed and groomed friends show theirs off- ending with the voice overlay "do not put that down, I will steal it." So taking something that's not yours is permissible if it's really cool, and if you're not cool enough to afford one, you're a loser. Nice.

The skin- lightening cream ads in countries full of people with dark skin are even more heinous, IMO.

I hate PCs. I hate vista. HATE Vista. I'm just worried I won't have a clue how to run a Mac, were I to invest in one.

I have a personal Macbook and a PC at work. I would run into a burning building to save the Mac, I would throw kerosene on a fire threatening the PC. I'm with you, I'm a Mac girl all the way.

Oh man! i am so not cool with my PC :(

Witchypoo: Part of their marketing scheme, certainly - but they aren't alone in that. Apple does the same thing.

Mrs F with 4: Awww. Thanks for the 'cool' vote. You're pretty cool yourself.

Moneythoughts: Does that make you Double Chosen, Fred? Cause that would be totally cool.

Ashlie: Yes, but you're only a Single.

FAPILV: No, you're right. Mac people have been cool for a lot longer than I've owned one.

CaraBee: Actually, the only thing about Macs that I DON'T like is that they've always kept the prices so high.

Huckdoll: I wish you could afford one. I do.

Jientje: Gremlins are taken care of.

Loraine: Definitely some mis-directed messages.

Hyphen Mama: They're E A S Y. Honest.

Tara R: Good thinking.

M+B: Oh, but you ARE cool.

So you aare a loyal Mac user. You know that makes you no better or worse than a non-Mac user. I havea PC that gives me fits at times, but I have friends that can make things work right again. (Again, thank you.)
I would love to have opportunity to sit down and play with a Mac just to see what I think about one for several days before having to make a commitment.
And exactly what is "cool" anyway?

Momisodes said...

I know of those commercials you speak of. And you know my love affair with my Mac.

I call it- jealousy.

I was a PC user until I butted heads with a Gateway desktop running Windows Millennium edition. Ugh. Trainwreck. That's when I converted to Mac and have stayed a loyal Apple customer ever since. And you're right. I don't know what it is about Windows that makes it so buggy. Is it too complicated? Too many parts? Too many programmers? I don't know. I just know it's painful.

And I hate that non-Mac users sometimes have this attitude about Macs, that we're snobs or something. Naw, we're not snobs, just fed-up. :)

I think my next computer might be a Mac again too.
Not sure though, 'cause I like playing games sometimes,... mh... hopefully still some time until I have to say goodbye to this little Laptop ;)

Chosen? Cool? I know the words but certainly not the definitions as applied to me/us! We went to Macs at the beginning of this year and have never had a problem. Go figure. I love the Mac/PC commercials.
