Discombobulated, Uncoordinated

Ever since BlogHer I have been a bit discombobulated and uncoordinated. Well, not ME really, but some of my habits. Well, not even SOME of my habits. One really. My Internet/Blog habit.

You see, I have a number of computers from which I check 'my' blogs, which in itself isn't a bad thing, but it is when you find yourself working with these systems as I do. I have a number of blogs I've 'joined/follow'(27) - where they're in the 'reader' on the Blogger dashboard page. I go there less than I should. But that's not the problem.

I have a number of other blogs I've subscribed to via RSS and I have a total of three tabs in my Google home page with 33 of those blogs displaying the titles of the last three posts. But that's not the problem, either.

The problem is favorites or bookmarks. On one machine, my list of 'favorites/bookmarks' is 72 sites. 5 or 6 are stale. On another system, my list is 60. On another system, my list is 46. That is my problem. My bookmark lists have become uncoordinated - where they USED to be identical in length and content - each of them now differs. And because they ARE uncoordinated, I have become discombobulated. Off kilter. Confused.

There are people I need to add to my 'lists'. I can't because I need to be able to get my lists in sync, first. And if that's all I had to do that would be fine. But for me, as with anybody else out there who works, or keeps a house, or is raising kids, there are too many things to do and not enough time in which to get them done.

What I should really do is write an application in which I can make a change in one machine, propagate that change to a master list, and update all machines from the master list every night.

Just what I need.

Something ELSE to do.

*whine* and cheese :)

Mh.
Isn't there anything out there that does sync stuff on various computers?
I have heard of it before....not sure though.
I think you can download and safe for example your Favs with Firefox and get them to another computer like that. A plugin sorts through and you can delete doubles.
I think..... :)

It's simple. A bit time consuming but simple.

1. Get a piece of paper and write it ALL DOWN. Ever single blog, favorite, etc. Whatever! Just take the time and do it.

2. Add them all to a fresh, new Google reader or alternate reader.

3. Access all blogs from any and all computers.

PS. You can create folders in Google reader, too. Mine? Love, Like and Meh. You're still in the Love folder, btw ;) ;)

But yeah, it's so worth it to just take an evening or two and sync everything up.

That's a lot of blogs to follow and read. I don't know how you find the time to do it. Too much for my little brain to think about.

If you subscribe via RSS in Google Reader to those that are in your Blogger Dashboard, the reader itself will stay current from machine to machine. Simple.

Your blog viewing complexity provokes a distinct chill. GOOGLE READER. Can I get an Amen? I go, pick 10 or so, read them out of reader and then mark the rest as "read" My bad...anyway, works like a charm.

I didn't even go to BlogHer and I'm feeling a bit discombobulated right now too (LOVE that word!). I just switched all of my work feeds over to Google Reader, long story, but I have to track a ton of blogs for my real job.

I'm still using bloglines for Mommycosm. For now. I also use safari for work and firefox for personal stuff. Tons of bookmarks on each. Someday I'd like everything to magically appear in one place, nicely sorted according to my work and personal interests. *Sigh* that would be nice.

Sorry, no words of wisdom for you. Just, well, good luck with that. I feel your pain.

Don't look to me for answers. I'm pretty scatterbrained with my blog reading and commenting!! LOL

Love my Google Reader. Very easy to use and to add blogs to (just click on the little orange button in the url address line or somewhere you see it on the page, and it will guide you to signing up in your Google Reader.

Good luck! :)

P.S. And if you do sign up today, will you please tell me which blogs show up under Recommended Blogs on the right-hand side? Because my blog has been listed there for a few days now (along with Stacy, The Random Cool Chick), and I want to know if they're just messing with me. Maybe on other people's page, it shows a different blog?

I feel your pain. 'Course I have the organizational skills of the average lab monkey.

I've been looking for something to sync my bookmarks in Firefox and IE and haven't found a thing. And until I do, I guess I'll just come and sit next to you on discombobulated couch. Well, I hope the couch itself isn't discombobulated...just those sitting on it.

So much good advice. All you need is a little time?
Simple.

Oh and I love that word too, but Ashlie beat me to that comment.

I'm glad you got some good advice 'cause I have no idea. Heck, I can't even manage to post of photo on my blog...so, I'm really technologically challenged. Good thing I married a techie...

I totally understand! I used to do a lot of my "internet updates" at work and therefore those sites weren't in my home computer's favorites! When I left work I left behind a lot of good sites and info. :( If you write that application - I'll buy it! Promise!

I need to do this too. My biggest issue is that I want to get rid of all the blogs from my Blogger profile and just put them in my reader like normal. I totally need to sync up and get with the program, I now have over 400+ blogs in my reader-- some I need to suck it up and get rid of because I only read every once in a blue moon.

And if you make that app? I AM ALL OVER IT.

:)

I wish I had some words of advice. I'm suffering the same, but I only have 1-2 computers. I'm just horrible about checking my reader...and balancing my time.

you need to be on a blog diet

I've been in sort of a blog funk since Blogher. I can't say why exactly. I had a good experience there. You'd think I would be gung-ho go. I wish I could blame it on multiple computers.

Good grief! My list of blogs that I read, is the one on my sidebar. Not many! Sometimes I click to a new one if I see a great comment somewhere, or if they've commented on mine, but I have to love them to add them to THE list. You'll always be there, though!

Holy shit cutiepie Really? My bloglines are the same no matter where I log in. (and by 'the same', I mean WAY TOO LONG.)

Nicole: I found that today - a plugin for Firefox. But one of my systems is IE.

Huckdoll: That may just be what I wind up doing. The problem, for me, is that some of my sites don't have feeds and aren't on blogger.

Shadow: Yes, it does - at least for me.

Kelley: Thank you, Kelley.

Michael: I hope you enjoy the stories, Michael.

Moneythoughts: Yes - it is a lot. I've tried cutting back .. but I can't.

Witchypoo: Not everybody HAS RSS.

FrankandMary: If I could get them all in the Reader, I would.

M+B: As will I.

Ashlie: There HAS to be an answer, somewhere.

Secret Agent Mama: Scatterbrained? You? Not on your life.

Mrs4444: I have been populating Reader from one of my systems, today. I'm working on it.

Loraine: Yeah - but you have great toes.

Audrey: You can sit next to me anytime.

Jientje: Yeah. Simple. Time? What's that.

Joyce-Anne: Yes, marrying a Techie is always a good idea. Otherwise - we get lonely.

Calicobebop: I'll find it or write it - one or the other.

Heather: 400+ in your Reader? YOU are a Goddess.

Momisodes: Speaking of Goddesses - balancing time? What time?

Warriorwoman: I need to be on all kinds of diets.

CaraBee: You'll get your groove back - honest.

Nan: You have remarkable self-control, Nan, and an incredible place in which to live and how could you COMPUTE when you could be OUTSIDE in it?

Ree: XX right back atcha, Gorgeous.

What Huckdoll said. And take a couple of Advil while you're doing it. And have some Malibu rum and Coke on top of that. And don't forget coalminersgd.blogspot.com. Hee hee! :)

You can import them from IE to FF ;)

I use Google Reader too, I couldn't keep up with everyone with out it.

I would always come by here though no matter what.
