Speleobox

We went to see the Talking Rocks Cavern in Branson West. More about that over the next couple of days. But we started out the visit with my adventuresome young lads deciding to challenge the diabolical construction you see depicted below.

The entry is on the right. The exit is on the left. I estimate there are more than 120 linear feet of crawlspace inside that box. And that does not include vertical travel to get from one layer to another.

Here is Alex headed for the exit. (#2 Son)

And this is Zachary, successfuly exiting the box. (#3 Son)

And then there's Lou (#1 Son). At this point in time, he thought he. was. going. to. die. But he survived, as well. I was NOT stupid enough to put my big, fine body inside that devilish construction. I was smart, which was amply demonstrated the next day when Alex shot a video INSIDE the box. Which had never been done before.

You want to See This Video !!

I've seen the video, it IS diabolic! I think I'd prefer to be smart, and stay out of it, but your son did great, even kept talking all the time! Pheww!

That looks, uhm, interesting :)
But. Mh. Thanks, but no thanks ;)
Since I once almost got stuck in a tunnel cave in Norway (we got a warning ahead of time though) and since I'm a tad older and bigger now, I doubt I would want to try ;)

I have to let the video jingle through first and then might be able to watch it in half an hour or so ;)

I could never do that. I'm afraid of heights.

Perhaps that box is a cultural thing, native to Branson, MO, because we don't have that stuff here. I agree with you Lou, why would you want to put your fine body through that. Once upon a time, when I was a kid, I'm sure I would have thought that was fun. :)

you sure that's not meant for little people, i.e. kids????

My only question: WHY???

Ha Ha on thought he was going to die. Those are some of the most fun things to do(to me). I love any edge of danger, though not particularly suffocation. ~Mary

Oh Lou, why didn't you do it? Although I would've corpsed with giggles if I'd tried.

So they experienced what it was like to be in a cavern exploring. Going through tight openings to amost see what was on the other side. Definitely for the young and trim. Not sure how tall your sons are (I'm guessing in the 6'0"-6'2" range) even more of a challenge if I'm right.
I'm sure about 30 years ago I would have been right in there with them, laughing the whole time because my legs are too short!

And the point of such a box, is????

It looked like it was already a challenge without trying to hold on to the video camera! Definitely for the young and agile.

Wait. What? said...

Oh good lord - crawl spaces, tight spaces like that I would die in - no way! Ugh just looking at the photos gave me the hypersensitive feeling of a panic attack on the edges!

I don't think we have a speleobox around here- but we have plenty of caves. I couple of years ago some acquaintances of mine drowned in an underground lake, and there are rumors that they're sealing off the famous nearby Nutty Putty caves because amateurs find themselves in dangerous situations there. I might visit the cave at Mt Timp- but it's a big one and I'm a bit claustrophobic. There are even caves in rock canyon. We like to play our drums and didgeridoos in them- the acoustics are awesome. As long as I can see the exit, I'm okay...

Diabolical is right! Wow that is amazing. I don't think I could work my way through it either. I don't like small spaces.

It must be a mindset that some people have that allows them to do that sort of stuff. Me? I don't have it. My brain screams "IMGONNADIE! IMGONNADIE! IMGONNADIE!"

Fun to stand back and take pictures, though.

Box is creepy.
I know you don't do awards anymore, but this one is very special. At my place.

Ummm, No. That is not for me. I get claustrophobic even in larger areas than that box. No.thank.you.very.much.

No way. My recurring nightmare involves caves and narrow openings. ;-)

The, um, wow. Not for the claustrophobic.

We were just in the Branson area, but luckily we didn't know about this thing. My kids would have wanted to do it and I would have had a panic attack just WATCHING them get in there. ~Shiver!~
